There was an air of confidence about the Somerset team as they had their final practice session at the County Ground on Tuesday morning before their journey north to Derbyshire later in the day ready for the championship match that gets underway Wednesday morning.
The Cidermen will be anxious to add a second victory to the one that they gained over Durham last weekend, and will be boosted by the return of England paceman Andy Caddick who will be making his first appearance of the season for them since returning from the World Cup.
At the end of March the thirty four year old announced that he was retiring from One Day Internationals but intended to carry on playing five day cricket, so he will be keen to show the England management that he is back at the top of his form ahead of the first Test Match against Zimbabwe at the end of May.
In the two championship games so far this season Richard Johnson and Nixon McLean have shown themselves to be a very effective strike force, and the addition of Caddick to the line up means that Somerset probably has one of the strongest attacks in the country, and skipper Mike Burns is hoping that they can use this to his advantage.
Burns said: "It's great to have Andy Caddick back playing for us, which means that we will have the `Big Three' to spearhead our attack at Derby."
"We have got to be confident after beating Durham on Saturday, and will be looking to carry on from where we left off and get another victory under our belts," he continued.
Caddick's England colleague Marcus Trescothick will also be in the Somerset line up and looking forward to the match told me: "It was good to get a win in the championship last weekend and we will be going all out to make it two in a row by beating Derbyshire."
For Peter Bowler it will mark the return to a ground where he used to play regularly between 1988 and 1994, and where he thought he had played for the last time in September 2000, when he scored an unbeaten 117, in the rain affected draw.
The veteran opener said: "I'm a bit disappointed to be going back to be honest because I thought that I'd played my last match there, but our circumstances have changed so I am going back to Derby once more. The side that we are playing against has changed a great deal since I was there, but over the years I have scored a lot of runs on that ground."
He continued: "There is no reason why we shouldn't feel confident after our win over Durham at the weekend. Our bowlers did a great job for us and we only had to get 195 runs to win, and we did what we had to do. We'd be happy to chase that sort of total anytime to win a game.
Whilst off spinner Keith Dutch retains his place in the squad and there is a recall for all rounder Keith Parsons for the first time this season.
The Somerset squad of twelve to face Derbyshire has been named as - Marcus Trescothick, Peter Bowler, Mike Burns, Jamie Cox, James Bryant, Keith Parsons, Rob Turner, Keith Dutch, Aaron Laraman, Richard Johnson, Andy Caddick and Nixon McLean.
