Canterbury Country has deservedly won the Southern Zone Primary/Under-14 Girls' Tournament after solid performances throughout the competition.
Batting first against Christchurch Black, Canterbury Country made 124/6 off the full 40 overs. V Abbot top scored with 29 with E Bermingham contributing 22. Best bowlers for Christchurch Black were T Schulte (2-10 off eight overs) and A Forbes (2-11 off seven overs).
In reply Christchurch Black were restricted by good bowling and fielding to only 92 runs of 38 overs. The pick of the Canterbury Country bowlers was K McDonald who dismissed four batsmen in 6.4 overs for 18 runs.
In other matches, Christchurch Red beat Otago Gold by eight wickets to gain third place. South Canterbury gained their first win of the tournament toppling Otago Blue by only four runs in the 40th over.
