Outplaying their opponents in all departments of the game, Delhi scored an emphatic ten wicket victory over Jammu & Kashmir in the North Zone Cooch Behar (under-19) cricket tournament match at the Moulana Azad stadium in Jammu on Tuesday.
J&K were all out for 124 in their first innings to which Delhi replied with 346 for three declared. Building upon the 109-run opening stand between Dhruv Mohan (63) and skipper Gautam Gambhir (64), Delhi finished with a lead of 222 runs. An unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 147 runs between TT Dilip (100) and Salil Oberoi (58) boosted the Delhi total. Dilip batted three hours, faced 130 balls and hit 13 fours and a six. Oberoi was as aggressive, facing just 70 balls and hitting seven of them to the ropes.
J&K just managed to avoid an innings defeat thanks in the main to a fighting 86 by Satyajit Singh. He faced 185 balls and hit 13 fours. Asif Jalani and Imral Thakur, each of whom scored 30, added 52 runs for the second wicket off 11.3 overs. Two successive partnerships of 56 runs for the fourth and fifth wickets between Satyajit Singh and V Kaw (21) and then between Satyajit Singh and Mayank Goswami (13) helped J&K to reach 199 for four. Then however Vivek Khurana caused a sharp collapse and the last six wickets fell for only 28 runs. Satyajit was ninth out. The J&K total left Delhi to get only six runs for victory.
