Derbyshire have turned down Chris Taylor's request to be released a year into a two-year contract. He has struggled for runs this season and was criticised for scoring too slowly in a recent 2nd XI game.
"Chris asked for an improved contract. We were prepared to do that. We would now like that to be honoured," said Tom Sears, Derbyshire's chief executive. "Contracts work both ways. We have shown faith in Chris and we expect something back. He has been assured by the chairman and the captain that he is an important part of our plans."
