Karnataka took a firm grip on the proceedings and ended the first
day's play at 172 for 2 after the Karnataka off spinner M Dharmichand
(7 for 25) ripped through the Goa line up and bundle them out for 65
in their first innings.
Electing to bat, Goa made a circumspect start with openers MN Govekar
(22) and SS Sachin (10) adding 18 runs in 11.1 overs. Sachin was the
first to be dismissed when he gave a catch to Anand off S Lazarus.
Three overs later Dharmichand had SD Saheel snicking to the keeper
Anand. There after it was just a procession of batsmen for Goa. They
had no clue about Dharmichand's off breaks and before long the innings
folded up in the 36th over.
In reply Karnataka made a heady start with openers HTS Rao (71 not
out) and Vaguesh (17) adding 46 runs in 16.5 overs. Vaguesh was
pouched by Sagun off D'Souza and this brought in Stuart Binny to the
crease. Binny, in the company of Rao took the score past the 100-run
mark. Binny became the other casuality of the day for Karnataka when
he offered a chance to Sagun off Kandolkar.
Rao was along looking in good touch and with D Chougule for company he
made sure of no further hiccups for Karnataka. During his 193 minute
stay at the crease he faced 135 balls and found the boundary ropes six
times.
