Zondeki, who last year took a wicket with his first ball in international cricket, bowled with pace and hostility, although he nonetheless conceded almost six runs an over as Somerset declared on 245 for 7, 81 runs behind. By the close, South Africa had reached 126 for 2 in their second innings, a lead of 207.
Matthew Wood and James Bryant had given Somerset a healthy start, adding 100 for the first wicket, but when Charl Willoughby trapped Wood lbw for 55, Zondeki slipped a gear. Bryant lost his off stump to a yorker straight after lunch, and Keith Parsons fell soon afterwards for 1. Ian Blackwell played a frenetic innings of 19 before becoming Zondeki's third victim, and he added two more before the declaration.
Gary Kirsten completed a satisfactory comeback, adding 42 to his first-innings 66, but Herschelle Gibbs failed again. Boeta Dippenaar was unbeaten on 52 at the close.
