Glamorgan refute merger claim

Glamorgan have today dismissed as "nonsense" a story about a possible merger with local rivals Gloucestershire, Somerset and Worcestershire.

Chief Executive Mike Fatkin said: "Our Coach, John Derrick. mentioned some form of regional cricket when asked on a radio phone-in about where county cricket might be some time well into the future, but that was as part of a discussion about standards, was completely speculative and had nothing whatsoever to do with the finances of the county game, which is what the story has been trying to imply.

Someone has taken John's comments completely out of context and tried to make a story out of them. There is no story there. The issue has never been discussed and the whole idea is total nonsense."
