Gujarat Under 19's surprised their Mumbai counterparts by three
wickets in a Cooch Behar Trophy West Zone league match that ended on
Friday.
Mumbai looked to be in control after taking a 90 run first innings
lead at the Wankhede Stadium. Put in to bat, they were bowled out for
290 on the second day. Opener SS Thakur top scored with 69 while B
Thakkar finished unbeaten on 66 and Vinit Indulkar, a product of the
National Cricket Academy, collected 51. Gujarat seamer SK Trivedi was
th ebest of the nine bowlers used, taking 4/78.
The visitors were bowled out for 200, only opener DA Trivedi showing
some spunk with a solid 76. Left arm seamer Swapnil Patel ran through
Mumbai in their second knock, taking 7/90 as the hosts stumbled to 171
in under 40 overs. Set 262 to win in a race against time on the final
day, Gujarat just about made it in the 49th over of the innings.
DA Trivedi (76) put up another sterling show, adding 101 for the first
wicket with PA Patel, and skipper AA Christian gave thrust to the
middle order with 54. But it was BD Thaker who delivered the death
blow with a swift 59 off just 43 balls. Gujarat were home and dry with
three wickets in hand and collected eight points for their labours.
