The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has said that it is "extremely disappointed" with the fact that Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies captain and ICC match referee, was not elected as vice-president of the West Indies Cricket Board at the annual meeting in St Maarten recently.
Lloyd, who had earlier failed to get a nomination to run for the post of president, was beaten by the incumbent Val Banks by a vote of 8-6. The GCB press release stated: "It was the Guyana Cricket Board's view that with Mr Ken Gordon, a non-cricketing administrator already assured of the presidency, greater consideration should have been given to the need for the availability of knowledge and experience of international cricket at the helm.
"In the circumstances in which regional cricket finds itself, advantage should have been taken of an offer by one of the game's stalwarts, who was prepared to make a difference for West Indies Cricket which has meant so much to him."
The statement continued: "The board hopes that the disappointment and frustration which Mr Lloyd would feel at this time will not diminish his interest in the game in the Caribbean and that he would continue to make his considerable talents available to Guyana and West Indies in the future.
"Despite these disappointments, the board remains fully committed to West Indies cricket and is prepared to collaborate fully with Mr Gordon and his team in the enormous challenge that lies ahead to restore West Indies cricket to its former glory."
