The ICC today broke its meeting at Lord's on match-fixing and bribery to release a statement regarding allegations against the ICC President, Jagmohan Dalmiya with respect to TV rights for the ICC knock out competition in Dhaka in 1998. The main points of the statement were:-
- Media rights were sold by a formal tender process
- There were four bidders - Doordashan, TWI, World Tel and CSI - all of whom made a buy-out tender
- The 4 bids were opened by David Richards, Chief Executive and Ehsan Mani, Chairman Finance and Marketing, in the presence of a Notary Public
- The top 2 bidders - Doordarshan and TWI were invited to re-bid on a "share of revenue" basis. This was again done in writing.
- The revised bid of Doordarshan, which was the highest, was accepted. The contract was signed with Doordarshan by the Chief Executive.
- The President, Jagmohan Dalmiya, was not involved in negotiations with any of the 4 bidders.
- There were no other parties to the agreement or instrumental in arranging this contract. ICC paid no commission or fees to any party, and there is no evidence to suggest that any person in ICC has benefited from this contract.
