†INDIA v ENGLAND 1984-85

At Nagpur, January 23

15-Apr-1986
At Nagpur, January 23. India won by three wickets. The advantage of winning the toss in matches starting at 9.30 was again illustrated when England needed Cowdrey's powerful 46 off 42 balls to reach 240 for seven, despite an opening stand of 70 between Fowler and Moxon (21 overs). Rain the day before was a factor in England's requiring 34 overs to reach a rate of 4 runs an over. Moxon, who with Cowdrey and Agnew was playing his first international, was missed at 45 and 59 in an innings lasting 42 overs. India faced problems at 31 for three. But Azharuddin, who showed that straight 6s were also in his repertoire, added 59 with Gavaskar, whereupon Kapil Dev, dropped at long-off at 16, scored 54 off 41 balls to swing the game. England's fielding generally was as untidy as, in Bangalore, it had been brilliant.
Man of the Match: Kapil Dev.
