The opening stand of 93 between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Tharanga Paranavitana was the perfect start that Sri Lanka needed, after they chose to bat in the crucial encounter, trying to stay alive in the series.
The twin dismissals of Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera soon after lunch in successive overs - the 48th and 49th of the day - spoiled the good start for the visitors. While Jayawardene succumbed to Sreesanth, Harbhajan accounted for Samaraweera.
Tillakaratne Dilshan must consider himself unfortunate. Having got to his century, he looked to give Sri Lanka full command. But a poor decision from umpire Nigel Llong gave him out caught at short leg. The ball from Harbhajan Singh was long away from the gloves or the bat and bounded straight off the pad to M Vijay.
