India v Sri Lanka, 3rd Test, Mumbai, 2nd day

03-Dec-2009
On a day when India thoroughly dominated proceedings they got the prefect start while overhauling Sri Lanka's near-400 total in the first innings, as the openers M Vijay and Virender Sehwag piled up a massive 221.
With few opportunities in the offing, Sri Lanka could ill afford to slip up. But Rangana Herath put down a chance from M Vijay at mid-on off the bowling off Nuwan Kulasekara. The score was 167 but another 54 runs from the pair there on had the visitors' shoulders drooping.
India were relentless in their bid for supremacy. If Sri Lanka hoped for more inroads after M Viajy's exit, the second-wicket stand of 222 between Sehwag and Dravid helped them surge past Sri Lanka's first-innings total of 393.
