India v Sri Lanka, 2011-12

A review of India v Sri Lanka, Asia Cup, 2011-12

At Mirpur, March 13, 2012 (day/night). India won by 50 runs. India: 4pts. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Two weeks after he had performed heroics against Sri Lanka in Hobart, Kohli took another century off them, although this was far more measured than his Bellerive barnstormer. On a pitch that tested his patience, Kohli held back the big shots as he built a match-winning alliance with Gambhir. They put on 205 - the third time they had shared a stand of 200 or more - and picked up boundaries at will as they both completed their tenth one-day international centuries. Dhoni and Raina provided a hard-running, big-hitting final flourish which took India past 300 against an attack lacking the rested Lasith Malinga. Sri Lanka stayed in the hunt until the final quarter of the match, thanks to the usual suspects, Jayawardene and Sangakkara. But when Sangakkara fell to the first ball of the 36th over, India sensed their chance - and grabbed it. Pathan finished with four wickets, while Ashwin and Vinay Kumar kept things quiet at the other end.
Man of the Match: V. Kohli.
