Wasim Jaffer and Vinit Indulkar made it a hard day for Bengal's bowlers on the opening day of their fixture at the Jadavpur University Campus in Kolkata. Jaffer remained unbeaten on 139, while Indulkar, who made his entry after Rohan Gavaskar ran out Vinayak Mane for 33, was 64 not out. The two shared a stand worth 171 runs for the second wicket. Mumbai ended the day on 254 for 1.
Karnataka 23 for 0 trail Andhra 237 (Faiq 74, Pradeep 59, Joshi 5-78) by 214 runs

Sunil Joshi claimed five wickets and conceded 78 runs as Andhra were dismissed for 237 in Bangalore after being 107 for 8. A ninth-wicket stand of 129 between Mohammed Faiq (74) and Andimani Pradeep (59) was instrumental in their recovery. Karnataka then made steady progress in six overs, reaching 23 without loss.
Delhi 212 for 7 v Madhya Pradesh

Sodhi had played a hand in their collapse as well, taking three wickets, while Vikram Singh claimed 4 for 45.

Tamil Nadu's batsmen had a good day, as they reached 288 for 3 at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati. Four of the five men who batted struck up fifties. After Sadagoppan Ramesh fell to the third ball of the day, Sivaramakrishnan Vidyut (52) and Sridharan Sriram (82) put on 117 runs. Then Hemang Badani (74 not out) and Subramaniam Badrinath (50 not out) put on another century partnership and remained unbeaten at the end of the day.

Rakesh Patel and Rajesh Pawar shared nine wickets to limit Hyderabad to 170, but then watched their own side, Baroda, slip to 11 for 4. Narender Singh did most of the destruction, and ended with figures of 3 for 6 in five overs. Baroda trailed by 147 runs.
