Jacques Kallis is in doubt for South Africa's triangular VB Series in Australia this month with a flare-up of an elbow injury. Kallis, who scored 111 on the second day of the third and final Test against Australia at Sydney, will be assessed later this week, according to a statement by Haroon Lorgat, South Africa's chairman of selectors.
"A decision on his fitness for the one-day series will then be made and we will consider retaining AB de Villiers should Kallis not be declared fit," said Lorgat. de Villiers was not originally named in the ODI squad for the tri-series, which also features Sri Lanka and hosts Australia.
Nicky Boje, the left-arm spinner, who was dropped for the Sydney Test, will return home.
Johan Botha, the Proteas off-spinner, who made his Test debut in Sydney, will take the place of Boje in the 15-man South African squad. "Johan showed promise in India and we are bold enough to give him another opportunity," Lorgat said, referring to November's one-day series.
Andrew Hall, the allrounder, will join the one-day squad in Australia and Boeta Dippenaar returns after a successful wrist surgery. Monde Zondeki, the fast bowler, has also been included.
South Africa squad (probable) Graeme Smith (captain), Jacques Kallis, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, Boeta Dippenaar, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Garnett Kruger, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel, Shaun Pollock, Ashwell Prince, Jacques Rudolph, Monde Zondeki.
