Jacques Kallis, after scoring 21 runs in the Super Series one-day whitewash against Australia, has vowed to hit back in Friday's six-day Super Test.
Kallis denied that he was out of touch, telling www.supercricket.co.za, "I really don't feel out of form. The feet are moving nicely and I'm hitting the ball well - I'm just not finding the gaps. I'm hoping the longer game will suit all of us better because we were always going to struggle in the one-dayers with so many of us trying to fill different roles to what we're used to.
"We just didn't play as a team during the one-day series but with the extra time of the Test I think we'll be in with a very good shout - we've got so many quality players in the team."
But Kallis insisted that the experience of playing with so many of the world's best players, most of whom were keen to prove a point after the whitewash, had been a fruitful one. He also warned that the Test would see a different, more determined World XI side.
"It's been a fantastic experience getting to know all the guys on a personal level, the same people you've always played against, but the cricket has obviously been very disappointing. I'm not the only one who is determined to make up for the one-dayers and try to put the record straight.
"Australia are a world class side, and Warne is coming back so nobody expects it to be easy, but we're better prepared for the test than the one-dayers."
And despite the Sydney Cricket Ground's traditional reputation for assisting spinners, Kallis suggested that conditions in October might prompt the selectors to opt for a different approach.
"The SCG is traditionally a two-spinner pitch but they don't play too many matches on it in October so, who knows, it may be a bit greener than normal and suit the seamers. I don't think selection is a forgone conclusion. We'll see how it looks closer to the time."
