England A debut in India, averages 50.66 from the three-match ODI series against India A, including a 122-ball 131 in the second game.
November 2004
Completes qualifying period, called up to England's tour of Zimbabwe, makes unbeaten 27 in 47 balls on debut in Harare.
January-February 2005
Returns to South Africa with England and is booed on to every ground but scores 108 not out, 75, 100 not out from 69 balls and 116, ending the seven-match series with 473 runs.

Takes England to victory over Australia at Bristol with 91 from 65 deliveries.

Reaches 1,000 ODI runs in his 21st innings, equalling Viv Richards' record.

Named ICC one-day player of the year with 682 runs at 56.83.

Scores 89 runs in three innings as England are whitewashed 5-0 by Sri Lanka. Makes little impact in 2-2 series draw with Pakistan later that summer.

Scores 444 runs at 55.50, rising to the top of the ODI batsman rankings, but can't prevent England flopping at the World Cup in the West Indies.

Makes a best score of 79 as England fail to reach the semi-finals of the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa.

Appointed England captain across all formats; leads a 4-0 rout of South Africa in the ODI series.

Pietersen's 111 not out from 128 balls in Cuttack can't prevent England being whitewashed 5-0 by India.
April 2009
Signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for $1.55 million, becoming one of the two highest-paid IPL players. Picks up Achilles injury at the tournament, which goes on to rule him out of the final three Ashes Tests.

England's leading runscorer at World T20 but the hosts fail to reach the knockout stages.

A less successful return to South Africa with 52 runs in three innings as England win 2-1.
May 2010
Man of the Tournament and second-highest run scorer at the World T20 in the West Indies with 248 runs at 62.00, helping England to their first global ICC limited-overs trophy.
