Scorecard
Justin Langer smacked 111 in the first session, taking a heavy toll on Stuart MacGill, and by tea Western Australia had raced past New South Wales's 305. They ended the day's play on 6 for 456, 151 ahead with Adam Voges not out on 74.
MacGill's figures were 0 for 68 from five overs as Langer spectacularly showed he had recovered from a back injury with 134 off 114 balls. Langer, who blasted 19 fours and five sixes, hit MacGill for 22 in one over to bring up his century, and took him for a total of 65 from 24 deliveries. He was dismissed from his first ball after lunch but MacGill, who turned 34 today, continued to be punished and had 0 for 133 at the close of play. Murray Goodwin collected 86 as Western Australia overtook New South Wales shortly before tea. Stuart Clark was the most impressive of the visiting bowlers with three wickets.
