8 Craig McMillan A fine comeback by McMillan, and an uncharacteristic match saving innings which truly tested his technique in Ahmedabad. A watershed in his career. Daryl Tuffey Silenced some critics, mainly overseas, with the best bowling in the series. A competitive customer now more confident in himself.

7 Mark Richardson The anchorman's anchor. A batting enthusiast who added success in India to his expanding list of credits. Also some fine close-in catching. Lou Vincent Settled into his future role as an opener. While his second Test century in Mohali will get more attention, his 67 in the second innings in Ahmedabad was the more impressive statement. Nathan Astle Displayed his allround batting skills in the first Test, getting off the sick bed to save the match with a fine effort. Hopefully, knee worries are only temporary. Daniel Vettori Thrived on the bowling opportunities in unresponsive conditions. Nice flight and guile, as always. Much improved batting performance that helped save the follow-on in the first Test.

6 Scott Styris Continued his progress at this level. Fine second Test century in testing circumstances. Looks secure at No 4, and his medium-pace offered good back-up. Robbie Hart Tradesmanlike with few flourishes. Outstanding effort to keep so well to the spinners. Ian Butler This was a tour that suggested his future is bright. Fast and strong, he will get better, much better.

5 Paul Wiseman Didn't set the world on fire. Economy rate the poorest of all the bowlers, meaning consistency is still not quite there. Stephen Fleming Disappointing tour with the bat for Fleming, but he demonstrated captaincy strengths, drawing an excellent response from his bowlers at Mohali.

4 Jacob Oram Disappointing batting in the first Test, though his bowling stood the test. Injury denied him a chance to improve in the second Test.
