Northumberland shut up shop to block out a draw against Cambridgeshire at
Wisbech. The visitors, set a testing target of 212, lost their first three
wickets before tea for just 29, and two more fell in the final session as
they slipped to an uncomfortable 75 for five. But ex-Yorkshire batsman
Bradley Parker (26 not out) and Graeme Angus (30 not out) then denied
Cambridgeshire, and play was called off early with Northumberland on 114 for
five.
Ajaz Akhtar, the Cambridgeshire captain, had followed his first innings five
for 37 with an unbeaten 50 towards his side's second innings total of 170 for
six.
Day one at Stone saw Norfolk recover from 74 for seven to 150 for eight off
64 overs in reply to Staffordshire's first innings of 158 for five off 50
overs. Paul Bradshaw (41 not out) and James Garner (20 not out) added an
unbroken 48 for the ninth wicket.
