New Zealand v India 1998-99

Toss: India.

Toss: India.
Without the injured Tendulkar, India had little hope of challenging New Zealand's mammoth 300 for eight, and the series was drawn 2-2. That owed everything to a tempestuous 115 by Cairns, who hit seven fours and seven sixes in 80 balls, having reached his century off 75. He cut loose with 15 overs to go: New Zealand scored 121 from the last ten.
The game was not without controversy. The Indians were furious when they thought Cairns, then 51, was caught behind, but the appeal was turned down, and later he was dropped on the mid-wicket boundary when 76. Replying, Ganguly scored 60 in 50 balls, but the lower-order batting collapsed to Harris.
Man of the Match: C. L. Cairns.
