New Zealand v South Africa 1998-1999

At Napier, March 26

15-Apr-2000
At Napier, March 26. South Africa won by two wickets. Toss: South Africa.
Rain, having prevented a result the previous evening, limited the rearranged daytime fixture to 40 overs a side. New Zealand were indebted to a fifth-wicket partnership of 93 between Twose and Parore after a shaky start. The South African reply was built around their two in-form batsmen, Gibbs and Cullinan, though tight-fisted bowling from Larsen and Astle hauled the game back New Zealand's way. Then some explosive batting from Klusener - he had hit 29 off 18 balls as he prepared to face the last ball from Nash - meant that a four would see South Africa home. The intended yorker became a full toss and was slogged by Klusener for six; New Zealand had lost a great chance to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
Man of the Match: L. Klusener.
