At Christchurch, March 28. West Indies won by ten wickets. After West Indies' bowlers had kept New Zealand to an inadequate total following Coney's decision to bat, Greenidge produced another outstanding innings as he, with Haynes an almost silent partner, swept them to victory with 10.4 overs remaining. His 133, from 140 balls, was his ninth and highest one-day hundred for West Indies and included four sixes, one a huge straight hit off Patel, and sixteen fours. New Zealand's scoring-rate never reached 4 an over, and when Patel and Coney seemed ready to accelerate, Hooper, at slow-medium, bowled them both and Bracewell as well while 7 runs were added.
