Sachin Tendulkar played down the fact that he had recently been overtaken by Steve Waugh in total Test centuries scored, saying that the two batsmen were not in competition with each other.
Waugh's 32nd Test hundred - his second in consecutive innings - moved him past Tendulkar's 31, leaving only Sunil Gavaskar on 34 ahead of him.
"There is no race to score centuries between the two of us," said Tendulkar. "He himself is a great batsman." He added that although he would like to score more hundreds, more satisfaction would be derived from contributing to Indian wins.
Tendulkar's recovery from his finger surgery has been much followed in India, and he said that he felt "quite comfortable while working out in the gym. But I have not had a net practice due to heavy rains. With the monsoon setting in, I think I will have to wait till the conditioning camp at Bangalore, starting on August 14, for a proper net practice."
