Pakistan in New Zealand, 2010-11

A steady century from Mohammad Hafeez, his first in one-day internationals, and a cyclonic 65 from Shahid Afridi inspired Pakistan to a comfortable, series-levelling win. Hafeez overcame the early loss of three partners to add 94 with the in-form Misbah-ul-Haq and 52 with Umar Akmal but, when his 144-ball innings was ended by Mills, Afridi took over, crashing five fours and five sixes in a 25-ball stay. With Akmal contributing 44 in 29 deliveries, Pakistan racked up 91 from their final 6.2 overs. Twenty-two came off an over from Oram, who apologised for sending down a beamer after Afridi had clouted him for two sixes in three balls, and New Zealand were made to rue Bennett's dropped catch at third man when the Pakistan captain had 31. Taking liberal advantage of the short square boundaries, Afridi reached 50 in 19 balls, equalling McCullum's record on New Zealand soil and falling only two short of the all-time quickest. Guptill and How made a spirited start but, once Styris and Williamson fell in quick succession, the rest - unable to make much of Umar Gul's end- of-innings excellence - offered only fleeting resistance.
