At Harare, September 11, 2011. Second one-day international: Pakistan won by ten wickets. Zimbabwe 225-6 (50 overs) (H. Masakadza 68, B. R. M. Taylor 50); Pakistan 228-0 (42.1 overs) (Mohammad Hafeez 139*, Imran Farhat 75*).
A crestfallen Taylor will never be allowed to forget saying "bat" when he meant "bowl" on winning the toss. Asked by Alistair Campbell presiding over the toss for television, but also Zimbabwe's convenor of selectors - why he had chosen to bat, Taylor was speechless for a moment, before mumbling: "Er, can I change my mind?" Campbell replied: "No. So, why did you bat?" Taylor later said: "God knows what possessed me - the wrong word came out." Zimbabwe duly struggled in the worst of the batting conditions against a seaming and swinging ball. Masakadza's 68 from 118 deliveries was especially sluggish, though he revealed afterwards he had been batting to order: following Taylor's gaffe, 230 had been the target. As it transpired, 330 probably wouldn't have been enough. Mohammad Hafeez was outstanding during a career-best innings on a pitch now baked lifeless by the afternoon sun. It was only the fourth one-day international Pakistan had won by ten wickets.
MoM: Mohammad Hafeez.
