†PAKISTAN v ENGLAND 1983-84

At Lahore, March 9

15-Apr-1985
At Lahore, March 9. Pakistan won by six wickets. Fowler and Lamb, in thirteen overs, helped England recover from a bad start after Pakistan had won the toss, but in support of accurate bowling the Pakistan fielders skilfully defended the 85-yard boundaries - and when Randall and Lamb were run out in the 33rd and 35th overs England lost impetus. Botham's inability to gain the strike was an added handicap and only eight 4s were hit throughout the innings. With Saadat at first unwilling to score in front of the wicket, Pakistan had work to do at 96 for two after 26 overs. But England could do nothing to restrain Zaheer, who made a 6-an-over task look simple and finished the match with his eighth 4, over mid-off. While fielding, Botham aggravated the injury he had carried through New Zealand and the following day he began his journey home.
Man of the Match: Zaheer Abbas. Attendance: 38,000.
