Ricky Ponting has thrown his weight behind the ICC's move to overhaul existing throwing laws. He hoped that the ICC would treat existing throwing problems ahead of their meeting in Melbourne, where representatives from all Test-playing nations are due to meet.
AAP reported Ponting as saying, "There's been lots of discussion about it and lots of time and money invested in coming up with where they are at the moment with this regulation. As far as I'm concerned, it's a good regulation, it's in place now and let's just hope it's adhered to." Ponting also wished that the case of bowlers being reported was dealt with swiftly.
After numerous studies were conducted on bowlers, recommendations were made to the ICC that the maximum angle of a bent arm as the bowler delivered be put at 15 degrees. But the recommendations have not yet been implemented. Recently, there was confusion over which set of rules Harbhajan Singh had been reported according to. The umpire who reported his action clarified that the existing laws had not changed.
