Former India off spinner Erapalli Prasanna has been inducted into the
International Cricket Council's (ICC) panel on illegal
deliveries. Prasanna, 59 replaced Kapil Dev as India's nominee on the
nine member panel.
Speaking from his Bangalore residence over telephone while confirming
the news, Prasanna said ``I have received a letter from the ICC
president Jagmohan Dalmiya. It is a great honour to be on the panel. I
shall try hard to fulfil my obligations to the nation.''
It may be recalled that Prasanna's expert services were first sought
by the Board of Control for Cricket in India when he accompanied off
spinner Rajesh Chauhan to Fred Titmus' school in London for remedial
measures after his action was found to be suspect.
Prasanna, who took 189 wickets in 49 Test matches, was recently
invited for a 12-day coaching camp in Dubai by the Dubai Cricket
Council. However ``due to technical difficulties and Ramzan festival I
have postponed the programme,'' he said.
Prasanna could not attend the first meeting of the ICC after his
appointment, which took the decision to ban Shoaib Akthar as he was
not intimated in time. Pakistan's nominee Imran Khan also did not
attend the conference as he was away in Mexcio. The other members of
the ICC panel on illegal deliveries are Sir Clyde Walcott (West
Indies, chairman), Bobby Simpson (Australia), Doug Insole (England),
John Reid (New Zealand), Brian Basson (South Africa), Ranjan Madugalle
(Sri Lanka) and Michael Holding (West Indies).
