Media Release: Report on QEA Trophy round four, day 2

Allied Bank were heading for their fourth successive victory in the QEA Trophy when they were in commanding position against Dadu at close of play on the second day at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium in Karachi on Thursday.
The bankers, starting the day at 262 for one in reply to Dadu's modest 102, declared their innings at a massive 600 for eight to secure a 498-run first innings lead. When curtain fell, Dadu were 33 for four.
Usman Tariq, who began this morning at 119, finished as the top scorer with a well played 180 that came off 282 deliveries after occupying the crease for 315 minutes. He struck 15 boundaries and four sixes. Wajahatullah Wasti, who resumed at his overnight score of 102, could add only eight more runs before perishing.
Nevertheless, former Pakistan Under-19 captain Aaley Haider continued the good work when he slammed a rapid 118-ball unbeaten 100 that contained eight fours and three sixes. Together with Aamir Hanif (65 off 71 balls), Alay put on 106 runs for the fifth wicket.
At Rawalpindi, one-day specialist Misbah-ul-Haq hit a fluent 213-ball 100 for KRL who declared their first innings at 410 for eight in reply to the home team's 158. Misbah became one of the first victims of fast bowler Junaid Zia who tuned up for the forthcoming tour to UAE with Pakistan `A' with impressive figures of five for 78 from 26 overs.
At the KRL ground in Rawalpindi, PIA batsmen once again dominated proceedings against Karachi Blues when they declared their first innings at 460 for nine after starting the day at 317 for two. Ghulam Ali, overnight 178, was dismissed after scoring 188 while Asif Mujtaba contributed 60.
Shoaib Malik struck 11 boundaries in his 50-ball 57 while skipper Moin Khan hit a 30-ball 40 with three fours and a six.
When stumps were drawn for the day, Karachi Blues were facing follow-on at only 155 for five with teenage opener and skipper Khalid Latif holding the fort with a gutsy unbeaten 91. He has batted for 230 minutes during which he has received 189 balls out of which nine have been punished for boundaries while three have been converted into sixes.
At Bahawalpur, the home team secured a first innings lead against Pak PWD when they finished the day's play at 270 for six in response to the visitors 146.
At the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, ZTBL earned a 96-run first innings lead against the hosts when they dismissed them for 144 while defending 240. The hosts had started the day at 29 for two. At stumps, ZTBL were 115 for two.
Customs made full use of the 32 overs that were possible on the day at the LCCA ground in Lahore against Lahore Whites when they raced from overnight score of 93 for no loss to 271 for one.
Opener Kashif Siddiq, who started the day at 41, struck a flawless 128 from 136 balls while Azhar Shafiq was batting on 107 from 175 balls after beginning the day at 47. The two featured in a 235-run partnership in little over three hours.
For the second successive day, no play was possible at Lahore Country Club in Muridke between Gujranwala and Sheikhupura, and at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad between Faisalabad and Wapda.
