Another tough draw for Sussex
OUTSIDERS Sussex face England fast bowler Devon Malcolm after being drawn away to Derbyshire in the NatWest Trophy quarter-finals.
Conquerors of holders Lancashire, Sussex must travel on July 29
to Derby, where the in-form Malcolm claimed seven for 35 in a
second-round victory over Northants. Glamorgan, rejuvenated by
Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis, have a home draw against
Yorkshire, Middlesex a home tie against Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire, who beat favourites Surrey, will host Essex.
The dispute between Derbyshire`s players and committee following
Dean Jones`s acrimonious departure must linger on following
the postponement of today`s appeal by former captain Kim Barnett
against club fines of -L1,500 for unauthorised media statements
on the matter.
The appeal hearing before the England and Wales Cricket Board
will now be heard next month. It is understood that Derbyshire`s
chairman Mike Horton was unable to attend.
Sussex have started trimming their squad by releasing batsman
Toby Radford and pace bowler Martin Thursfield.
