Rohit Sharma's 90 powered Mumbai to a 21-run win over Gujarat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In a match shortened to 25 overs, because of showers, Sharma's 51-ball blitz boosted Mumbai to 194. Gujarat made a good fist of the target, with former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel leading the chase with a half-century, but ultimately fell 21 runs short.
Maharashtra continued their dominance of the West Zone Ranji Trophy one-day tournament with a facile seven-wicket win over Saurashtra at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. In a match reduced to 33 overs, thanks to rains, medium-pacer Shrikant Mundhe bundled out Saurashtra for 151 with a five-wicket haul. Powered by cameos from Praveen de Shetty, Sridharan Sriram and Yogesh Takawale, Maharashtra then eased to the target with 45 balls to spare.
Meanwhile rains continued to lash down in the north and central parts of India, with five games being washed out without a ball being bowled. North Zone authorities have rescheduled four rounds of the tournament, starting on February 16.
