Sabina Park survived the onslaught of Hurricane Ivan with only minor damage, according to a report on the caribbeancricket.com website.
Whereas the stadium in Grenada took the full brunt of the storm and was almost totally destroyed, Sabina Park received no major structural harm. The website said that there were a few lost zinc sheets from the George Headley stand and a few broken billboards.
Hurricane Ivan, one of the most powerful storms to batter the Caribbean, killed at least 16 people on Jamaica and up to 44 on Grenada. It was a rare, top-intensity category five hurricane, with winds reaching 270kph.
