Karachi, April 26: Opener Saeed Anwar will miss the first Test against
the West Indies starting at Guyana after his departure was delayed
indefinitely. The first Test starts from May 5.
"Saeed held a training session in Lahore on Wednesday. He later
informed the PCB that his knee was paining more than it was hurting
last week. He requested that until the pain minimizes, his departure
should be delayed.
"The PCB has accepted his requested. He will now not leave on
Thursday," PCB director Yawar Saeed said, adding: "At the moment, his
departure has been delayed indefinitely."
Saeed Anwar admitted from Lahore that he will not play in the first
Test.
"The knee was paining on Wednesday and I don't want to put the team in
a situation where it is restricted to 10 players," he said.
Saeed said he would now leave for the West Indies in the first weeks
of next month so that he can play in the four-dayer at Barbados to
check his match fitness.
"It would be too risky for me and the team if the directly play in the
first Test without knowing where my match fitness stands," he
remarked.
The left-hander said as per instructions of the specialist, he would
continue training. "The knee is hurting but I have to continue
training. That's want the specialist said after surgery."
