Sizzling Bravo takes T&T to final

Dwayne Bravo plays it through midwicket, India v West Indies, ICC World Twenty20 Super Eights, Lord's, June 12, 2009

Dwayne Bravo had not made a significant contribution with the bat leading up to the semi-final, scoring only 21 runs in four innings for Trinidad & Tobago. And in the semi-final against Cape Cobras, Bravo had a horrid time with the ball, conceding 46 runs in three wicketless overs. As a result, T&T were chasing 176 for a place in the final and they needed their most senior player to contribute.
When Bravo began his innings, T&T had lost three wickets after a rapid start and the spinners were operating effectively, forcing the asking-rate to increase. There had been no boundaries for 31 balls until Bravo heaved Justin Ontong over deep midwicket for six. Despite that boundary Bravo wasn't timing the ball fluently and had scored only 17 off 15 balls when he lofted JP Duminy to long-on, where Ontong dropped the catch.
Bravo ensured that the lapse hurt the Cobras, by clearing the boundary twice off Vernon Philander, over long-off and extra cover. He continued to attack thereafter, edging Charl Langeveldt for four to third man and brought up his half-century, off 31 balls, with a lofted drive over cover. Bravo finished the game with a pull off Rory Kleinveldt to the midwicket fence, sparking off celebrations in the T&T dug out.
