SSC's Mahela Jayawardene left for Australia last night after Sri Lanka's Aravinda de Silva injured his hamstring muscle in the third game against Australia 'A' played as a prelude to the Triangular between Australia, England and Sri Lanka.

The Inter-School cricket encounter between St. Peter's and St. Sebastian's ended in a tame draw at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

In reply to the Sebastianites 311 for 6 declared, the Peterites closed their innings at 244 for 5 after an hours bating after lunch.

The Peterites were 62 for no loss overnight as skipper Jerome Fernando and Angelo Fonseka gave their side a solid opening stand adding 97 for the first wicket. Fernando (60) who was unbeaten on 25 overnight along with his partner Fonseka (46) who was undefeated on 30 overnight completed fine half centuries. Mahesh Perera with another 52 added vigour to the Peterite total and Sean Gunasekera hit an unbeaten 40 before the Peterites closed their innings.

St. Sebastian's going in for the second time with a lead of 57 runs batted the remaining overs and were 145 for 4 at stumps. Malshan Fernando top scored with 38.

Moors who have already obtained first innings points from NCC, look set to win outright early today in their Premier Cricket Championship game at Maitland Place. Moors who were 67 for 2 overnight in reply to NCC's meagre 162, declared at 406 for 9. NCC in their second turn were 36 for 1 at close yesterday.

The highlight of the Moors innings came from their skipper Chandika Hathurusinghe. Being the Cricketer of the Tournament last season, Hathurusinghe made a superb 161 in 299 minutes with 13 boundaries and four sixes. He faced only 220 deliveries but had two "lives" in his knock.

Hathurusinghe and Asela Jayasinghe (64 with eight fours and a six) put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket. He then put on 56 for the sixth wicket with Primal Salgado, 83 for the eighth wicket with Rasika Priyadarshana (40) and 58 for the ninth wicket with Kesara Jayasinghe (not out 21).

NCC: 162 and 36 for 1 at close (Kumar Sangakkara 10, Pradeep Hewage not out 18.)

Moors: 406 for 9 declared (M. S. Sampan 26, Sampath Perera 41, Chandika Hathurusinghe 161, Asela Jayasinghe 64, Primal Salgado 15, Rasika Priyadarshana 40, Kesara Jayasinghe not out 21, L. Hannibel 3 for 101, J. Sigera 2 for 93, Ruwan Kalpage 4 for 79).

Defending champions SSC were yet 65 runs behind with five wickets remaining in reply to Tamil Union's 346 on the second day of their Premier Cricket Tournament match at Maitland Place yesterday.

Hemantha Wickremaratne pulled SSC out of severe trouble with an unbeaten 106 with 12 boundaries. He was involved in a 153 run partnership for the fifth wicket with R. Galappathy (89 also with 12 boundaries) after SSC were in deep trouble at one stage losing three wickets for 43 runs.

Ananda managed a eight-run first innings lead over S. Thomas' and then saw the Thomians make 141 for 7, in their second innings when their inter-school cricket encounter petered out in a tame draw at Mt. Lavinia yesterday.

Ananda, continuing from their overnight score of 89 for 3 in reply to S. Thomas' first innings score of 189 declared, after fifty minutes of batting after lunch made 197 for 9 declared off 79.3 overs and 320 minutes. This was mainly due to a 76-run fourth wicket partnership between Chathuranga and Pushpakumara.

Thomian spinners Suranga Peiris and Rajiv Gunewardene claimed three wickets each.

S. Thomas' batting a second time, did not fare well again to lose wickets at regular intervals to be 141 for 7, with the match fizzling out in a draw.

All-rounder Muthumudalige Pushpakumara who did well with the bat, also did well with the ball to have a match bag of 6 for 75.

A match-saving third wicket stand of 150 runs between Tharindu Wickremasinghe (90) and Nisal Randika (52) helped Thurstan to force a draw in their inter school cricket encounter against Prince of Wales at Moratuwa yesterday.

Thurstan: 155 and 250 for 9 at stumps (Tharindu Wickremasinghe 90, Nisal Randika 52, Arjuna Dayananda 25, Nalaka de Silva 35, Pubudu Ranaweera 5 for 50).

Prince of Wales: 155 for 6 overnight 283 for 7 declared. (Shan Wijeratne 53 n.o., Kalpa Fernando 44, Janaka Wannakuwatte 32 n.o., Nalaka de Silva 4 for 32).

SET to make 204 runs to win off 44 overs Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa were 78 for 5 when their inter school cricket encounter against Maris Stella ended in a draw at the Wennappuwa Stadium yesterday.

Maris Stella: 150 and 153 for 4 declared (Achala Jayalth 53, Kasun Bulathsinhala 46, Ashan Dias 25 n.o., Mevan Fernando 18, Isuru Perera 4 for 36).

Joseph Vaz: 100 (Isuru Perera 26 n.o., Buddhika Fernando 4 for 15, Jeevantha Livera 4 for 17) and 78 for 5 at stumps. (S. Cooray 48 n.o., S. Dabarera 23 n.o., Ashan Dias 5 for 23).

St. Anthony's Katugastota and St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya were declared joint champions in the Schools Horlicks Trophy under 13 cricket tournament, when their final ended in a 'no-decision' at Police grounds, Kandy. There was no play on the first day and on the second day, St. Anthony's scrambled to safety, making 92 for 3 after getting a scare earlier on. Then it rain and the match was abandoned at tea-time on the second day.

St. Anthony's 92 for 3 wkts (M. Rizlan 15, H. M. Rikaas 40 not out, P. D. Withanage 26 not out).

The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka has appointed former Sri Lankan Test player all rounder D. S. de Silva as a specialised coach to tackle spin bowling talents in the country at a national level.

'D.S.' has been entrusted with training a squad of talented spin bowlers in the country.

Coach de Silva will soon be visiting outstation towns to pick talented youth.

Singha SC were 110 for 2 in reply to Sebastianites 462 for 6 on the second day in the Premier Cricket tournament match at the De Soysa Stadium yesterday.

A bright stand of 138 for the third wicket between Amila Pinnaduwa 83 (8 fours, 2 sixes, 100 balls) and Nafeez Nizam 73 (10 fours, 1 six, 81 balls) for St. Anthony's College, Kandy was the highlight of their inter-school cricket match against Royal College which ended in a draw at Katugastota yesterday.

Nafeez Nizam in particular batted very attractively driving and pulling with much power.

Earlier Royalists who were 114 for 2 overnight did not make much headway as they declared at 227 for 7 with Thushan Amarasuriya scoring 72 with 10 fours and he faced 101 deliveries.

St. Anthony's College 255 for 3 decl and 265 for 5 wkts, 66 overs, 360 mts (R. Wickremapala 11, K. Jayaratne 24, Amila Pinnaduwa 83, Nafeez Nizam 73, S. Burke 23 not out, P. D. Ranawaka 35 not out).

Deadly bowling by K. Weerasuriya who captured a match bag of 10 for 64 (4 for 19 and 6 for 45) bowled Dharmaraja College 'A' to an innings and 14 runs win over Trinity College 'A' in their inter-school match concluded at Lake View grounds, Kandy yesterday.

Dharmaraja College 'A' 202 for 7 declared.

Trinity College 'A' 68 all out and 120 all out in 42 overs (A. Wijesinghe 28, D. Fernando 25, A. Peiris 21, K. Weerasuriya 6 for 45, R. S. Pitigala 2 for 29).

Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya, Wariyapola had the better of the exchanges in the first day of their inter school cricket match against their namesake Sri Sumangala College, Kandy which began in Kandy yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

Sri Sumangala, Kandy: 100 all out in 27.2 overs (D. Balasuriya 48, S. Priyashantha 17, S. Prasad 3 for 31, N. Ranasinghe 3 for 48, P. Kumara 2 for 0) and 33 for no loss in 2 overs (C. Fernando 30 not out.)
