Sri Lankan Cricket - A Bi-annual on Cricket
Daily News
Cricket has come to stay in Sri Lanka fortunately or
unfortunately.
Fortunately because cricket is another game of the English
speaking people, particularly those in the lands where the
British held sway in the part.
Unfortunately, because cricket has ceased to be a gentleman's
game since the players had to go to the field with helmet and
chest guards.
However, the ``Sri Lankan Cricket'' published in English gives
the enthusiasts and readers quite a lot of information about
this game ever since Sri Lanka gained entry to the International
Cricket Conference and entered the arena of Test Cricket.
Among the numerous essays the magazine contains the history of
Test Cricket in Sri Lanka (by Extra cover) and how Sri Lanka won
the world cup (by Daily News Staffer Sa`adi' Thawfeeq) are
impressive and informative.
Thawfeeq by the way, is Sri Lanka representative of the Wisden.
He also gives, though briefly a summary of world cup matches
from 1975 to 1996.
Two veterans Harold de Andrado and Gerry Waidyasekara too have
made fine contributions.
