Three new caps were today named in the 14-member Indian team to
take part in the ICC knock out tournament to be played at Nairobi
from October 3 to 15. They are wicket keeper Vijay Dahiya of Delhi, medium pacer Zaheer Khan of Baroda and all rounder Yuvraj Singh of Punjab.
Announcing the squad at a press conference in Chennai, the chairman
of the selection committee Chandu Borde said that Zaheer Khan was
a very promising bowler and probably the fastest in the country. As
for Dahiya, he said he was chosen as a specialist stumper and also because he was a good improviser with the bat. As for Yuvraj, Borde said he was a good striker of the ball.
Vinod Kambli, as expected made another comeback while Sridharan
Sriram was taken as a third opener, according to Borde. The side
has three seamers in Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar and Venkatesh Prasad
and two specialist spinners in Sunil Joshi and Anil Kumble.
