Moosai Sports win a thriller
By FORBES PERSAD
MOOSAI SPORTS Club came out on top in an exciting finish against
Santa Cruz Sports in their second round Mt D'or Limited overs
match at Santa Cruz yesterday.
In front of a large crowd, Moosai Sports, chasing the home team
's total of 159 for eight were off to a good start from openers
Leon Romero, 35, and Neil Persad 15, who posted 41 runs before
the first wicket fell. The visitors capitalising on this good
start went along smoothly and looked very comfortable at 108 for
three. But after their lost Anil Rajah, 18, brilliantly run out
by Lincoln Roberts, and Allister Pierre, 4, via the same route,
they found themselves struggling at 123 for five with five overs
remaining.
Former West Indies player Tony Gray, joined Ricky Toussaint and
they both played some excellent shots to see their team safe
home with one over to spare.
"Man of the Match" Toussaint struck two towering sixes and one
for in his unbeaten knock of 33, while Gray remained undefeated
on 15. At Gilbert Park, California, defending champion Caroni
Wanderers, had an easy time getting past New York Parrot Cosmos
by 48 runs.
Chasing Wanderers's massing total of 233, Cosmos could only
manage to get to 185. Best bowlers for Wanderers were Avidesh
Samaroo, three for 29; and Rajendra Mangalie , three for 22.
At St James Barracks, Queen's Park also had an easy time against
Police. The "Lawmen" despite a solid half century from Robert
Neptune, 58, could only reach 168 for seven when the overs ran
out.
At Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, Clico Preysal wasted no time, to
overall Grande United's modest total of 105.
Paced by a brilliant half century from Sherrif Mohammed, 55,
they achieved their target in only 16.2 overs for the loss of
two wickets.
