Yorkshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire joined Worcestershire in the semi-finals of the C&G Trophy. In the three high-scoring matches played today, the highlight was Michael Vaughan's unbeaten century which helped Yorkshire to what was in the end a comfortable win at Old Trafford after his side had looked dead and buried at 85 for 4 chasing Lancashire's 286. Elsewhere, Brad Hogg lashed an astonishing 94 not out from just 61 balls, as Warwickshire racked up a massive 343 for 4 in their 50 overs. In reply, Northants, who opted to bat second, never looked like making it, despite a quick 52 from David Sales, the captain, as they managed only 270. In the third tie, Gloucestershire scraped through against Middlesex after scoring 239 for 8, after Craig Spearman and Phil Weston had launched the innings with a century partnership. Ed Joyce seemed to have Middlesex in control of the match, but three late wickets from Mark Alleyne scuppered their chances.
Gloucestershire 239 for 8 (Spearman 62, Weston 54) beat Middlesex 223 for 8 (Joyce 53) by 16 runs at Bristol
