It had to happen. After weeks of speculation about Moeen Ali's future at Warwickshire - and following two approaches from other counties - the club have offered him a contract renewal. However, Ali is understood to be delaying making a decision on his future, and will only make an announcement at the end of the season.
Worcestershire and Sussex are the two counties who have expressed an interest in Ali, and have made their 28-day approaches for him. Should he decide to move then Worcestershire could be a very attractive proposition for Ali, as his older cousin, Kabir, is established there. Last month he told Cricinfo that he, Kabir and his brother Kadeer, of Gloucestershire, all have ambitions of playing at one county.
Warwickshire, though, are understandably keen to hang on to their talented youngster, who captained England Under-19s to the World Cup semi-finals earlier this year, although they have allowed him few first-team opportunities to date. Their chief executive Colin Povey said, "Mo is a talented and ambitious young cricketer who has come through the ranks here at Edgbaston. We are obviously keen to retain his services and are confident that he can enjoy a good future at Warwickshire."
Povey added: "We have made him what we hope will be a very attractive offer for someone at his stage of development." Watch this space.
