Creditable performances from former West Indies youth all-rounders Ian
Bradshaw and Ryan Hurley and a solid half-century by opener Wayne Blackman
brightened up an engrossing second day of the third Barbados Busta Cup
trial match at Kensington Oval yesterday.
Replying to Philo Wallace?s XI first innings total of 292, Roland Holder?s
XI, paced by a 106-ball knock of 56 from the stylish Blackman, ended the
day on 203 for eight with the captain not out on 33.
Blackman, who batted for 162 minutes and struck five fours, was the first
of three victims for crafty off-spinner Hurley, who bowled Floyd Reifer
for 21 shortly afterwards and later trapped Hendy Bryan (17)
leg-before-wicket just before the close.
Earlier, Bradshaw captured two of the last three wickets to fall when
Wallace?s XI resumed from 253 for seven overnight, to finish with four for
34.
He then returned to show his worth with the bat, hitting four boundaries
in a fluent 63-ball innings of 29, before he was brilliantly caught at
slip by Ricky Hoyte off hard-working leg-spinner Dave Marshall.
Marshall and teenaged left-arm spinner Anderson Sealy both bagged two
wickets, while the other wicket to the pacy Brian Shepherd, who sent back
Kerry Lucas cheaply.
The four-day match, which continues today, is the final chance for
invitees to stake a claim for a place in the Barbados team for their
opening Busta Cup match against Guyana starting Friday, January 7, at
Kensington Oval.
