West Indies v Australia 1998-1999

At Georgetown, April 21

At Georgetown, April 21. Tied. Toss: Australia.
A pitch invasion ended the game, when Steve Waugh and Warne were jostled as they attempted to level the scores off the final ball. After meeting captains and officials, referee Raman Subba Row declared a tie. There had been an earlier incursion at the end of the penultimate over, which some spectators thought was the last. When the pitch had been cleared, Waugh faced Arthurton- bowling at the death because Simmons was injured - needing six to win. The first ball yielded two runs, the next four none; Waugh hit the sixth to long-on, where Williams fielded, and ran two, but was engulfed before he could complete the third run or Arthurton complete a run-out.
The match had been reduced to 30 overs by rain, and Adams captained West Indies when Lara withdrew because of his bad wrist. Despite a mid-innings stumble, Williams lifted their total to 173 with a run-a-ball flourish. Dillon then helped reduce Australia to 119 for seven before Steve Waugh and Warne combined to take them to the brink of victory.
Man of the Match: M. Dillon and S. R. Waugh.
