At Port-of-Spain, April 17. West Indies won by ten wickets, a result that was settled as soon as New Zealand lost the toss and had to bat first on a green and difficult pitch. Garner made the most of it with four for 10 from his opening six overs, and although Coney and Hadlee took advantage of his absence to add 58 the eventual total left West Indies with no problems.
