Piton Dover celebrated their sixth Barbados Cricket Association
Intermediate title yesterday with captain Vibert Greene praising his
entire team.
It was team spirit. We are all close friends and closely knit, the
former Barbados player said.
The Dovermen, as they are called, claimed their fourth consecutive
Intermediate championship after yesterdays fourth and final day
against Carib Beer Conrad Hunte Sports Club was washed out at the
James Bryan Complex.
Dover were 239 for nine in their second innings with an overall lead
of 332.
It was always going to be a tall order, said Peter Headley, captain
of Conrad Hunte, in congratulating the champions.
We missed two vital chances yesterday (Saturday) and that is where we
fell down.
Greene, who took over the captaincy after the third round of matches,
paid glowing tribute to former captain Jerry Kirton for his all-round
ability.
Jerry was always supportive; although he resigned as captain he still
gave 100 per cent, Greene said.
Asked about possible promotion to the Premier League, Greene said it
was left up to the club.
I suppose whatever is done the guys will support.
On the other hand, Conrad Hunte's Headley said: We are not interested
in being promoted.
We had a good year, having captured the Barbados Fire & Commercial
Shield and reaching the Intermediate final. We will stay in this
division a bit longer.
Dover took control of the four-day final from the second day when they
dismissed their opponents for 58 in reply to their 151 all out.
The St. Andrew team eased themselves back in contention by picking up
six of Dovers second innings wickets for 80 runs at the close of Day
2.
However, Dovers last four batsmen responded positively on Saturday,
batting through the entire day.
