Both sides chose from 13 players. Englandmade a slow start, losing openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales for single figures. But Nick Comptonsettled in, then James Taylor made 114 in four hours. He shared a fifth-wicket stand of 195 with BenStokes, who gave a hint of things to come by belting 23 fours and five sixes in 158 from 131 balls.Stuart Broad struck with his fourth delivery of the tour, and the Invitation XI were bowled out nearly300 behind. England built on their lead, but any hopes of victory were dashed by a thunderstorm,which washed out the last two sessions.
