Agarkar: Raina only choice for captain in Bangladesh squad

MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina added 73 for the sixth wicket, India v Pakistan, 1st ODI, Chennai, December 30, 2012

Suresh Raina, who was dropped for India's last ODI assignment - the Asia Cup - will lead India in the three-ODI series in Bangladesh in the absence of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli among others. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami were also rested. Robin Uthappa earned an expected national comeback, Wriddhiman Saha was called up to replace Dhoni as the wicketkeeper, and quite a few performers in the IPL and domestic cricket got selected.

Stuart Binny, Amit Mishra, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu were the only players retained from the Asia Cup squad.* With so many players resting, this was an ideal space for performers in the domestic season and in the IPL to fill.

Maharashtra's Kedar Jadhav, who led the season's Ranji tally with 1223 runs, got in, as did left-arm spinner Akshar Patel, who impressed for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. Vinay Kumar reaped the rewards for leading Karnataka and South Zone to three domestic titles. Manoj Tiwary, who has spent a lot of time on the India bench, came back too, almost two years after last playing for India. Parvez Rasool, who travelled to Zimbabwe last year without getting a cap, got another shot at it. Mohit Sharma's IPL success worked for him whereas absence of possible captains might have worked for Raina.

Raina's previous experience of international captaincy came in a tri-series in Zimbabwe, and a five-ODI series in the Caribbean. India failed to make the final of that tri-nation tournament in Zimbabwe, losing out to Sri Lanka and the hosts. India won the bilateral series comfortably in the West Indies, but Raina's batting and shot selection came in for criticism.

The most noteworthy comebacks, though, were of Uthappa and Saha. Uthappa last played for India in March 2012, but he had long ceased being a regular member of the side. This year, though, he followed up a decent first-class season with a stupendous run in the IPL, scoring 40 or more in 10 consecutive innings, possibly a world record.

Saha, known for his keeping skills more than his batting, has frequently warmed the bench in Test cricket, but his 206 IPL runs at a strike rate of 130 seem to have put him ahead of Dinesh Karthik, who kept wicket in Dhoni's absence in the Asia Cup.

Squad for Bangladesh ODIs Suresh Raina (capt.), Robin Uthappa, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayudu, Manoj Tiwary, Kedar Jadhav, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Parvez Rasool, Akshar Patel, R Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Stuart Binny, Mohit Sharma, Amit Mishra

*04.30GMT, May 29: The article had erroneously stated that Varun Aaron had been retained in the squad. This has been changed.

Instead of Vinay Kumar, Sandeep Sharma should have been included in the side just to reward him for his spirited performance in IPL7.

Posted by iamjai on (June 2, 2014, 17:36 GMT)

I like this selection, of course selectors cannot choose everybody but message is clear, consistency & past selections will be remembered (in case of injured player not getting enough opportunity).

Sanju samson, Sandeep sharma & others have to play consistently well in domestic circuit. If you hit Steyn for few sixes doesn't mean you will do well consistently in International circuit. There are many examples like Yusuf Pathan who have done well in IPL & even in few intl matches but not consistently to remain in team.

Also T20 performance doesn't guarantee a good performance even in ODI cricket where you have to adapt with bat & ball even on same Indian conditions forget about England or Australia. Pujara & Rahane are good examples of playing consistently well in domestic circuit as well as in A teams. Same way a bad performance in T20 doesn't mean bad player, remember even Steyn went for runs. So Amit mishra is still a good choice over Piyush for ODI's based on past performance.

Some feeling Sanju Samson and Sandeep Sharma should have been included. They are still young and pretty inexperienced. Trust me.

But I wanted to tell that W.Saha is excellent choice as he is one of the most experienced and great wicketkeeper I have seen. Just check the Century he made yesterday, amazing. Umesh Yadav another superb choice. They needed a Fast Bowler who could change pace, bowl great line and lenght, and ofcourse, someone who has got pace.

What surprises me is the out of form Amit Mishra, you got better in-form spinners. Vinay Kumar and Stuart Binny hasnt been impressive this Ipl but the reputation and experience, also for first-class cricket, they got in. And what is surprising is exclusion of Rishi Dhawan, who I really like.

But still, I think the batting is pretty complete, but the bowling is missing 1 good guy. As for Akshar and Mohit, 2 young lads in amazing form, so is Umesh Yadav. But something is missing in the bowling lineup.

Lets wait and see.

Little bit interesting choice but Samson deserve a place in this team.

Posted by spinkingKK on (June 2, 2014, 1:11 GMT)

Great selection. At last, Indian selectors are doing some job. This is one of the best selection I have seen from the Indian selectors. Saha is definitely the player for the wicket keeper slot. Karthik had his chances and he fumbled. Sanju Samson could have been tried. But, Saha's experience was more important. Only disappointment is the exclusion of the Yousuf and Irfan Pathans. Yousuf in place of Razool or Akshar Patel and Irfan in place of Binny would have made this team unbeatable, even by the senior Indian team.

Posted by Mr_Anonymous on (June 1, 2014, 19:01 GMT)

Overall, it is a mostly good selection. Personally, I would have preferred to have Sandeep Sharma in place of Vinay Kumar although Vinay has more experience and could potentially help some of the younger members of the side (as he is also captain of Karnataka which recently won the Ranji Trophy). I think the only other suggestion would have been to have Rishi Dhawan in the side (as a 16th member) as the medium pace bowling all-rounder in case Stuart Binny's selection does not pan out especially with the England Tour and the World Cup 2015 coming up. Akshar Patel should learn a lot from Amit Mishra on this tour. This is the series for Parvez Rasool to show his talent. He did not have a good IPL although T20 is probably not the right platform for him.

My playing XI: 1. Robin (wk) 2. A. Rahane 3. Rayudu 4. M. Tiwary 5. P. Rasool 6. S. Raina 7. K P Jadhav 8. Akshar Patel 9. A Mishra 10. U Yadav 11. M Sharma

my XI is Robin, Rahane, Pujara, Raina, Tiwary, Saha, Akshar , Rasool, Mohit, Vinay, Umesh

Posted by   on (May 31, 2014, 23:06 GMT)

My XI - Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Uthappa, Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Manoj Tiwary/Stuart Binny, Wridhiman Saha (wkt), Amit Mishra, Parvez Rasool, Umesh Yadav/R Vinay Kumar, Mohit Sharma.

Posted by Hareendra on (May 30, 2014, 8:57 GMT)

What about Dinesh Kartik? I think he is probably the most unlucky of players to miss out on the main team and now this second string team as well.

Posted by UberDAwesomeY on (May 30, 2014, 8:18 GMT)

For me, on the paper it looks as a great side.

BATTING Great Openers- Rahane/Uthappa duo Middle Order-Pujara, Raina, Rayudu, Tiwary, Saha Finishers- Jadhav, Binny, Rasool, Akshar

BOWLING Fast- Umesh, Vinay, Mohit Slow- Akshar, Amit, Rasool Part-Timers- Raina, Binny, Jadhav

Wicketkeeper- W.SAHA(What I personally feel)

Out of those 16, 11-12 can BAT, 9 can BOWL, with 3 Wicketkeepers.

It would be a battle to watchout for, Bangldesh would be relentless.

Honestly the ODI squad for Ban looks even stronger than the original squad with all the india stalwarts. What this team has in abundance is hunger and I believe they will crush the current Ban team. It will be interesting to see which player emerges out as a star to represent India in WC 2015. Good move by India.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 19:30 GMT)

This is the best India ODI squad I have seen in decades. They can crush any team they want with this line up.

Posted by adonisadonis on (May 29, 2014, 18:19 GMT)

Good to see some great cricket expert here who just need one or two game to certify a player if he is a test player. Reminding me of certain Mr. Desai who gave birth to the rumor about Rahul 'the wall' Dravid that he was born to play test cricket only :-) Besides, this squad is good enough to beat bangladeshis in their backyard, only concern is stuart binny and injury prone manoj tiwari. Absence of 1 experienced pacer can weaken their bowling attack.

Posted by SANATP22 on (May 29, 2014, 14:52 GMT)

why Rain is captain , dnt deserve place in odi side. Pujara is not odi player.Need player like Karun Nair,Sanju Samson, Rishi Dhawan,Sandeep Sharma must selcted for Bangaladesh tour. Cant understand of role S Binny.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 14:41 GMT)

Stuart Binny is a real surprise 4 me.Why not try Rishi Dhawan is much better option.I don't whether Binny can play 5 days of cricket.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 13:02 GMT)

there are lot of leg spinners performing well in ipl 7 like Yuzvendra Chahal but still why going with amit mishra

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 12:59 GMT)

in this squad in place of saha ranju samson will be beteer.because he is young and talented player.and dont forget tigers r nota weak time they can make upset every time and fight till last ball.there must be at least rohit and dawan.

Posted by akashchandran on (May 29, 2014, 12:41 GMT)

With the England tour starting on Jun'26, Pujara and Rahane who are integral part of the Test team could also have been rested. They too have nothing to prove on this Bangladesh ODI tour. Instead both of them should have been given a chance to shown their ODI credentials in the ODIs in England.

I was really astonished to see BCCI is sending an India A team in disguise! No doubt BD's performances since January were worst since 2009. No doubt these Indians have better talent & skills than Bangali players. But Ind shouldn't forget what happened to them in Zimbabwe Tri-series. They picked young inexperienced squad & lost to Zim in both matches. That Zim team was the worst one since gaining the Test status. That Zim team lost to BD twice by 4-1 margin in home & away just few months before that Tri-series. I won't b surprised to see Ind losing the series against this out-of-form BD. BCCI should've considered the performance of BD at home in 2009-13 period when they picked the squad.

Posted by baghels.a on (May 29, 2014, 12:17 GMT)

@real26_03, what's wrong in having an IPL as a criteria for selecting a 50 overs team ?? what do you suggest we base our 50 overs selections solely based on 4 day long Ranji trophy ?? for months i have cried hoarse that BCCI should double the amount of matches played in Vijay Hazare our premier 50 overs tournament but we either play too much 4 day cricket or too many T20's....whether you and rest of purist brigade likes it or not IPL is a good platform for uncapped Indian players because it mimics the environment of international cricket they get used to the atmosphere and pressure of performing in front of packed houses and millions watching on TV, ideally selection for ODI's should be based on Vijay Hazare + Challenger trophy but in absence of that mixture of domestic FC +IPL will do just fine.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 11:51 GMT)

I think india might loss fully in england.none of the batsman expect kohli & pujara able to pick up the moving ball and forgien conditions. I think this tour must be exactily the repeatation of the last tour.most younger batsman did not have the capability of playing long innings.

Posted by kc69 on (May 29, 2014, 11:41 GMT)

Frankly speaking its not even India A team, and many call it IPL performers team but in my view except for Uthappa there isnt any big IPL performer.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 11:13 GMT)

Not sure why Raina doesn't need a rest while other senior players are resting after the IPL???

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 11:01 GMT)

if the concern is young players .. Sanju samson , Karan sharma & rishi dhawan & Sandeep sharma should be squad instead of Praveen kumar , amit mishra & manoj tiwari. altough amit mishra did well in last few ODI . and he should deserve a place in squad, same as maoj tiwari , He is one of most unlucky player whom did not get proper rewards for his performances . But can find any reason to pick Praveen kumar . God knows what was going on in selectors minds.

Posted by JustIPL on (May 29, 2014, 11:01 GMT)

India should have included Ashwin in the team as captain. He is good with bat and bowl as well. BD have a good chance on many counts. They have a better wicketkeeper batsmen, shakib as a lone fighter on many occasions. There are many others who will be handful for india. It is a lottery for BD who should capitalize it for the sake of their fans.

India win this series 3/0

Posted by cricketIND on (May 29, 2014, 10:57 GMT)

This is not fair to Bangladesh cricketers, cricket fans in Bangladesh, BCB, sponsors and cricket fans as a whole. Everyone wants to see the full team India playing not their second 11. Even if BAN looses to the full IND squad, they wouldn't mind if that IND team consist of the big names. Everyone likes to see Kholi, Dhoni and the rest to see them play. Of all the people BCCI should know that cricket involving IND is more a business than a sport. So totally disappointed with the team to BAN.

Sanju Samson :

Top scorer for RR in IPL-7 with 2 50's and 6 30's at a healthy strike rate.

A good Ranji season at an average of 58 including a double hundred.

Top scorer for India in Under-19 world cup with 265 runs.

A terrific Champions league- 2013 with 3 50's from 6 matches ending up as 6th highest run scorer.

Appreciated by almost every commentator and cricket expert for his talent, temperament, balance, timing, grace, clean hitting and variety in stroke-play.

Wondering whether the likes of Yuvi, Rohit or even Kohli had a better resume than the above mentioned to merit selection to senior team at 19 or 20.

Hope the selectors won't miss a trick of trying out some REAL TALENTED youngsters before finalizing on the squad for 2015 WC.

Cant understand the logic behind the selection of manoj tiwary, rasool & akshar patel.. Based on the ipl performance chahal shud have been selected instead of rasool. Either Yuvi or vohara shud have been selected instead of manoj. karan sharma did better job than akshar. Sandeep sharma was better than umesh & vinay

Posted by UberDAwesomeY on (May 29, 2014, 9:18 GMT)

Yes, I still wonder, Rishi Dhawan, 49 wickets in Ranji, and also great player for Kings XI Punjab, Sanju Samson, the young WicketK/Batsman, another great First Class player and top run scorer for RR in Ipl, Karan Sharma, does bat good and great bowling, great player for Hydrabad in IPL, Railways in Ranji.

All these domestic players should have been in the squad.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 9:03 GMT)

Good young team selection except 1-2 names:

My team XI:

Openers - Kedar Jadhav, Robbin Uthappa

See the record of kedar jadhav including his strike rate both in First class and IPL 2014. He got limited chnaces in IPL 2014 and proved good in those. Uthappa can also act as wicket keeper. Both are big hitters.

Positions 3 - 6: Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina, Rahane, Rayudu

Pujara brings stability to Middle order Raina brings hitting abilities to Middle order. Rahane and Rayudu brings domestic experience to middle order

Position 7 - 8: Rassol and Akshar Patel as allrounders

Positions 9 - 11: Amit Mishra, Umesh Yadav and Mohit sharma as regular bowlers(keeping in mind about world cup Umesh and Mohit can be tested for consideration).

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 9:01 GMT)

Robin Uthappa Ajinkya Rahane Cheteshwar Pujara Wriddhiman Saha (wk) Suresh Raina (capt.) Ambati Rayudu / Manoj Tiwary Stuart Binny / Kedar Jadhav Umesh Yadav R Vinay Kumar Mohit Sharma Amit Mishra / Parvez Rasool

Posted by UberDAwesomeY on (May 29, 2014, 8:53 GMT)

My XI would be-

Robin U, Ajinkya R, Suresh Raina(C), W Saha(Wt), Manoj Tiwary, Stuart Binny, Kedar Jadhav, Akshar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Amit Mishra.

Batting Line till NO. 8, 4 Bowler(Mohit S, Umesh Y, Amit Mishra, A Patel-Around 38-40 Overs in all) 3 Part timers(Suresh Raina, Stuart Binny,- 10- 12 Overs in all)

Batsmen- 5 All Rounders- 3-4 Bowlers- 3

But still I wished Karan Sharma and Rishi Dhawan, even Sanju Samson to be there.

Posted by NP_NY on (May 29, 2014, 8:53 GMT)

Hasn't Saha got enough chances already? Sanju Samson is clearly the next Indian wicket-keeper batsman so why delay his inclusion? Surya Kumar Yadav deserves a chance as well.

Easy 3 100s for Anamul Haque but somehow I think BD will yet make a mess of this and still lose this 3-0 knowing this is a depleted Indian side and with all that pressure to win even more.

What a bizarre selection ? On what bases Stuart Binny is in the team ? His performance in this years Ranji Trophy has not been better than of Rishi Dhawan or Anureet Singh. Even Ashok Dinda has bowled better than him. People gets picked up in the team because of father being selector not because he is a good performance. Binny even struggled in this years IPL too.

Interesting Team selection this is..I believe the form n class exhibited by Karun Nair and Manan Vohra should have been rewarded..Same can be said for Samson..Akshar patel is a good selection so is Kedar, but its important to get them in playing XI..

Its baffling to see the ever flopped Vinay kumar in the team along with Manoj n Binny..neither of them did enough 2 justify their selection

My XI against Bangladesh: Uthappa,Rahane,Saha,Raina,Rayadu,Kedar,Rassol,Akshar,Mishra,Umesh,Mohit

A very good Team selection but sanju samson could have been better option then saha for sure he is excellent prospect for India a after Dhoni good to see akshar patel in team he impressed allot as a bowler he can bat too

Good luck to Indian team. It would be interesting to see how they play as a team. However, Bangladesh should never ever let go this opportunity to have a clean sweep against the current world champion with a good margin. Even in the last asia cup they were about to beat India like the last time but Kohli made the difference. I think without the Kohli & Mohd Shami, there is not much difference between these two teams. It's just that Bangladeshi boys need to have confidence & self believe on them. Hopefully, they can gain it by winning all three games with big margin. Best of luck to both the teams.

Samson guys got some serious Talent to flaunt and make the spectators glue..even with his little nudges. The flair which we relate to a yuvi and sehwag,,,the spark which keeps the spectators on. Could have started with Bangla trip. Even as a batsmen he can easily get a spot in d team now. Nair vohra Ksharma..Chahal Tambe ..Aaron..Pandey....Could have replaced any one on the list. Tiwary has got a lot of chances till now wihtout results and dont know on what basis his selection is.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 5:34 GMT)

its a superb team most of the players r in superb form an d the opponents r bangladesh so if indian U-19 team would have gone to tour bangladesh the result would still stand in india's favour (WHITEWASH).

Karn Sharma deserves a call too..otherwise nice squad..Karthik over Saha wud have been better as keeper batsman.

Donno! why selectors dint notice our young talented boy, Sanju Samson. Our god of cricket , Sachin too impressed with this boy. This isnt fair...!

Posted by NP_NY on (May 29, 2014, 4:56 GMT)

@Ajanthan Shantiratnam: Better for a series to be competitive than boringly one-sided like the Eng-SL series. This third level Indian team is good enough to beat not just BD, but with exposure these guys can easily beat teams like SL who get shot out for 67 and lose a match in 34 overs. India can easily have 3-4 teams that can compete with the international sides. Of course, like any other side they will have to play a few matches to get enough exposure before they start winning.

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 4:55 GMT)

i think the result of this series will( ban 3-0 india) bangladesh never consider this kind of team.just remember newzeland

Good choice. Missing Aditya Tare though...

Posted by black_bird on (May 29, 2014, 3:57 GMT)

A whitewash on the card for bd. Even hong kong has done it. It will be shame if india fails to do so. Beat bd at 3-0. Best of luck.

To reiterate what a NZ paper heralded during Kiwi's whitewash (umm the first one) that: Careers of lot will be over.

India is being complacent.

Kid Samson should have gvn the chance. He born late is not a good reason to stop the thunderstorm....

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 2:38 GMT)

So BCB voted for ICC changes to play this 3rd level Indian team? It could have been better to play a series against Afghanistan. Both teams could have got more exposure.

Varun Aaron's name is mentioned in the above article but is not there in the Squad list. Please confirm again.

Saha and Pujara need to fully ready for the England tour. Sanju Samson i/o Saha and Karun Nair i/o Pujara would have been better. Otherwise a decent team.

sir why manoj tiwari he didnt perform well DDD. Still is not ripe for ODI in contrary karun nair should have got a chance against Bangladesh. He is a very good player as we saw in his debut IPL showed maturiy in his shots and on field.

why bhajji has been left out? he's much better then mishra and even ashwin.

Posted by Chennai_Cricket on (May 29, 2014, 2:06 GMT)

Vinay kumar and Binny not deserve this place. They dont have that much talent to play international cricket.

Ashwin and Dhawan is rested or omitted?

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 1:30 GMT)

why they always select Binny..he is neither a batsman nor a bowler...and is lost wit it as seen in this years IPL.. rishi dhawan or IRFAN could have been far better...and why didnt they give a chance to young Sanju samson

Posted by   on (May 29, 2014, 1:19 GMT)

where is sanju .. ??????? noone cnt exclude him for his age ....its talent and performance ......i wnt him to b included in tis bngladesh squad......plus in tis current teamm thier s none who can giving powerhitting in the end .....and tis cn b a serious issue ....revice the team again tat the only choice left ...

Surprised at Patel call up but it s good. Raina leading is a question. Uthappa was elected but not Saha. I would chose someone else. Is Jadhav a keeper?

Posted by desiboy454 on (May 28, 2014, 23:04 GMT)

An interesting squad, a contrast to the test squad for England which is poor in bowling and strong in batting, this seems weak in batting and strong in bowling. Happy to see Raina back, I feel he is much better than Rayadu, Binny, Rahane for middle order in ODIs. Aksar patel seems to be a like for like replacement for Jadeja but better batsmen. My XI: 1. Uttapa 2. Pujara 3. Rahane 4. Manoj Tiwari 5. Saha 6. Raina 7. Aksar Patel 8. Rasool 9. Mohit 10. Umesh 11. vinay kumar/Mishra.. This squad will beat Bangladesh but won't destroy them.

Posted by wapuser on (May 28, 2014, 22:59 GMT)

Good luck to young indian side. Indeed they are very promising & it would be interesting to see how Raina take this challange to put this young side's performance in an instrumental way....on the other hand, perhaps this is one of those rare opportunities coming in many years for Bangladesh to cherish a clean sweep victories against the world champion. Resting only Kohli was enough for them to improve their chances of wining the series, however here comes a full package for them by resting quite a few numbers of players. Good luck to tigers.

Posted by SaiKrishna09 on (May 28, 2014, 22:15 GMT)

Please change the title that "Raina is to lead a young team". Amit Mishra : 31 + Vinay Kumar : 30 Stuart Binny : 30 Saha and Kedar : 29 + Uthappa & Tiwary : 28+ Raina & Rayudu : 27 Rahane & Umesh : 26 Mohit, Pujara & Rasool : 25+ whichs means Akshar Patel is d only guy in this team below 25 with almost half of the squad above 28 years of age.

It is true that this team has been selected partially on basis of strong first class season and partially based on IPL, but it cannot be called a young team.

Dis is where our selectors need to learn from almost all other international teams who believe in grooming serious talents from a really young age. There is nothing wrong in giving the like of Baba Aparajith or Sanju Samson a go early on. It will only benefit them.

Our selectors used to blood in youngsters much early on, however, of late, they are too reluctant......BAD LUCK for all those under-25 year olds coming up the ladder.....

Posted by Nampally on (May 28, 2014, 21:31 GMT)

I do not understand he basis for this BD tour. From a Indian point of view, it would have been great to include young talent + borderline players who did not make the Indian Test squad. In the present IPL 7, a number of talented batsmen & bowlers were in full view of the selectors. Even s a Cricket Fan one can notice Samson, Vohra, Nair stood out as outstanding batsmen & heart of future Indian teams. Similarly there were a few spin bowlers like Chahal & Karn Sharma & pace bowlers like Sandeep Sharma who showed lot of potential to be future stars. None of these guys are in the BD squad. Hence the entire basis of BD tour & the Selectors lacking an objective in such selection is puzzling. The Squad for England is equally puzzling after the 4-0 sweep suffered by India a couple of years back. The incompetence of the opening batsmen & pace bowlers contributed to the dismal Indian showing. Indian squad is still missing Uthappa & Nair best opening bats & Yadev+ Sandeep the best pace bowlers.

i would have loved to see sanju samson in this team this team is not picked on ipl performance as anchor is saying in the video he should check domestic performance of all player picked

Posted by ramz30380 on (May 28, 2014, 21:00 GMT)

If the selectors in the late '80s thought tht age is a barrier, then we never wud have seen a Sachin Tendulkar make his entry into world cricket at 18! By no means I am comparing here.... but ppl discarding Samson saying tht he is young must think abt this - India once were bold enough to throw in raw and young talent amidst in tough foreign conditions - Saurav, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble - were all unearthed when bold decisions were made.... I am really disappointed at ppl pointing to Samson's age for not choosing him!

I thought Sandeep Patil & Co were bold ppl - thoroughly disappointed.... also for the test squad I expected them to throw the captaincy to Virat and see how it goes..... looks like everything is the same! Ishant Sharma did not even feature in his Franchisee team, now he is being chosen for the test series, dunno wht to say!

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 20:55 GMT)

keeping mind of 2015 WC, they should have select arun aaron for this tour as he did good in IPL.Ii think, Parvez Rasool is waist selection here.

Pity for Sanju Samson, but those were selected in batsman list they were hanging since long, so Sanju can wait for sometime. I think, Sanju deserve debut against some 'A' class team.

Resting Rohit and Dhawan !!!! When did they become permanent members in the team...Both opener have not clicked together for some time nw...taking gambir in test and not giving him warm-up in ODI after such long gap in international cricket also seems recipe for failure. And Indian team management you just rested Dhoni for Asia Cup, how much rest does he need ??India is losing its ICC ranking for some time now..this series should be taken more seriously than this...The only good decision according to me is to rest Virat ,Bhuvi and Sir...They have been the only ones consistently performing for a year now...

Posted by Jackjin on (May 28, 2014, 18:29 GMT)

" he is the one who is goignt o fill dhoni shoes as far as WKing is concerned " and no need to worry about him... he will be looked into in coming years... what baffled me is umesh yadhav is in BD series and not in ENGLAND series where he needed the most...hope selectors revise the team for England series...

Posted by RahulWise on (May 28, 2014, 17:00 GMT)

Sanju Samson should be given a chance. He did superbly. Even though he didnt get many big scores, he has shown the skill. He can keep wickets too

Posted by xylo on (May 28, 2014, 17:00 GMT)

Given the show of captaincy skills in the IPL, I was expecting Gambhir to get a crack at it with a second-string side in B'desh in what could be a comeback trail. I am surprised that he is chosen on his batting 'form' rather than his captaincy skills.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 16:57 GMT)

yuvi is past, u cant select an old player just a couple of perfomance in 14 outings, he seems afraid to face the faster bowlers, so its better to forget him for future... 1. binny is bad choice coz he never performed 2. amit mishra should be replaced by chahal 3. Samson, Karun nair & Manan Vohra should hav been included

Why Sanju Samson not selected for against Bangladesh squad ?

Posted by gvarun1975 on (May 28, 2014, 16:01 GMT)

I dont know why someone questioning the selection of rayudu and binny in the team.rayudu played consistently well in this IPL and he had the major part for MI to get in to playoffs and he is the next dependable player player in the current team after pujara who can build slowly in middle overs and coming to binny he is good finisher and bowl some decent overs with taking off the pace.the only wrong selection in team is amit mishra.they should have gone for chahal or karan sharma instead of mishra

Posted by laxmanrules on (May 28, 2014, 15:56 GMT)

Don't know what people expect from Rayudu. He averages a solid 40 coming in pretty late. It's all good to have flat track bullies like Yuvi ands Raina in Bangladesh, but you have to reward technique.

Posted by Nampally on (May 28, 2014, 15:46 GMT)

The Selectors blew a great chance in logical team selection both for BD & for England Tour. Starting at the top, the best opening batsmen in form currently are: Uthappa, Nair, Vohra & Samson. Uthappa is picked for BD but not for England, the other 3 are dropped altogether. Gambhir is a poor choice - a compulsive poker of balls outside the off stump & Dhawan to some extent. So India has a huge opening batsmen problem. How could they ignore both Uthappa & Nair for England when they are in top form? Umesh Yadev bowling at 145 KPH & with excellent length & direction is out for England. Kumar, Yadev & Shami/Aaron are 4 best pace bowlers. Why is Umesh dropped for England? Coming to Captaincy, India need NEW Test Captain. Rohit Sharma is the best choice- much better than Dhoni, who has the worst overseas record. Samson & Vohra are the 2 best young talent but not in BD Tour, Binny is a "proven worst choice" & is included in both BD & England squads. Irrational squads for both BD & England!

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 15:29 GMT)

If Stuart Binny can get in why cant LR Shukla from Bengal play as allrounder. He didnt get many oppurtunities in IPL but was in super form in domestic cricket.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 15:26 GMT)

Best starting 11 should be Rahane Uthappa Pujara Tiwary Raina Saha Rasool Patel V kumar Yadav n mohit sharma. Rayudu can come in as back for middle order batsman

Posted by CricketAficionado on (May 28, 2014, 15:24 GMT)

What is this binny doing in this team? He couldn't utilize the limited chances he got during asia cup and wt20 and also he was in awful form in this ongoing ipl. Its good to see overrated Dinesh Karthik was out of the team. It should be Ambati Rayudu's last chance. Glad to see overrated Rohith and Dawan were rested (they should be dropped instead). Uthappa deserved it. Karun Nair should have been included. Rest is good.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 15:24 GMT)

why is Manoj Tiwary got selected yuvi played far better than him sad selection

Posted by farshad102 on (May 28, 2014, 15:24 GMT)

Selectors must go for Yuvi, Samson, Karan Sharma, Karun nair & Manan Vohra instead of these players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Manoj Tiwary, Kedar Jadhav, Parvez Rasool & Stuart Binny, they all are out of form, why they don't wanna give chance for young Samson? what they are expecting from these Binny, Tiwari & Rasool?

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 15:13 GMT)

Gambhir deserves a shot at captaincy. He's proved his calibre as a captain time and again. 2015 WC could have been his last shot at captaincy, the selectors should've at least tried him out. He won't get any younger after this..

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 15:13 GMT)

raina, mishra, rahane n b.kumar are out of form in ongoing ipl n raina already having poor capten record..this nt a gud team even no chance to win 1 game also..they should try young guns like chahal, suriya, kuran, uohara, sanju,k.sharma, etc

Posted by SavvyCanadian on (May 28, 2014, 14:52 GMT)

I don't understand why Stuart Binny gets selected. He is a super-flop in current IPL. In ODIs he normally sits just on bench. If selected, he is not given more than one over to bowl, that means the Captains (Dhoni & Kohli) do not have confidence in his bowling. Even in IPL, he is not given more than one over to bowl. In batting too, he is unable to reach double digits. Instead, a more genuine all rounder like Rishi Dhawan should have been selected, as he is the most successful bowler in recent Ranaji matches and has done well in IPL in bowling & batting. Also, Sandip Sharma should have been selected.

Posted by Noni on (May 28, 2014, 14:51 GMT)

Raina and Yuvraj both were dropped for Asia Cup before IPL. The only thing happened between then and now is all T-20 games. In this IPL Raina has 382 runs at 31 average 3 fifties with 11 sixes and no wicket in bowling as of now before the Eliminater game. Yuvraj has scored 376 runs at 34 average 3 fifties, 28 sixes and has taken 5 wickets in 22 overs. Can any body explain why Yuvraj is not picked. I am not saying that Raina should not be picked but if Dhoni keep saying that Yuvraj is the key player for next world cup then I dont see he is making sure that Yuvraj gets all the chances he deserve to continue lifting his confidence that can demolish any bowler in Australia/NZ.

But his heroics in ipl doesn't show that he is back ?They gave him chance when he doesn't deserve it..They knocked him out when he deserve it.Sadness and Why isn't sanju samson selected? He is better batsmen and keeper than Saha.Sharing dressing room with M.S,Dhoni and a first hand experience of things out there would be a tremendous boost at this juncture of his career.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 13:16 GMT)

Sanju Samson's omission in the teams to Bangladesh and England is a grave error of judgement. And selecting Wriddiman Saha is as tactical a blunder as it can get. Did the selectors choose to ignore Samson because of his age? Weren't Tendulkar 16, Harbhajan 18, Yuvraj 19, Raina 18 and Ishant 19 when they all made their debuts? This guy is one heck of a talent. Hardwork and discipline are other qualities associated with him. Saha is lucky to be playing IPL. And lucky to be in the squad to Bangladesh and England.

Posted by TNAmarkFromIndia on (May 28, 2014, 13:15 GMT)

Good to see the selectors rewarding Kedar Jadhav's exceptional domestic season with a place in the national team, even if just against Bangladesh. In a 3-match series however, it's going to be a challenge for each player to get enough games to prove themselves. Hope he gets a fair chance. He may very well be one of our best bets for the middle order among the domestic players.

Posted by raviiiyer01 on (May 28, 2014, 13:09 GMT)

Sandeep Sharma and Manan Vohra to be slipped into International arena this Bangladesh tour was a great platform..These guys would have excelled and would have done wonders to their confidence. Incase any bowler broke down in long tour of England Sandeep Sharma could have been called upon and he would have been effective in English Conditions. Selectors missed the trick this time.

Posted by JRP100 on (May 28, 2014, 13:09 GMT)

these are mostly good selections. Rohit, dhawan, kohli, dhoni, and all 5 main bowlers are rested ( jadeja, ashwin, bhuvi, shami, aaron), so i'm guessing only spots 4 and 5 are still up for grabs in the ODI team. Selecting the most experienced domestic run getters is a better choice than the youngest because the world cup is the main target here and not rebuilding... Rahane and rayudu hardly did much to cement their spots as 4 and 5 so they'll have to contend with jadhav, saha, manoj, raina, pujara and uthappa in this tour (although uthappa will more likely open and rohit drop down to 4). rasool and akshars selections was only really to rest jadeja and ashwin but good performances from them will be good to show jadeja and ashwin that there is some competition.

Everyone needs to stop slamming rayudu, he's done relatively well for mumbai this year and still averages 40 in ODI's with only about 10 games, its rahane that deserves dropping if anything!

Posted by PA26 on (May 28, 2014, 13:08 GMT)

Varun Aaron In Place of Yadav & Sanju Samson in place of Shah. Samson should be tested from before because he is the best choice for 2015 WC as back up keeper. Shah, Karthik & Patel would be in their 30s by the next WC.

Manoj Tiwary, Rasool and Saha are real waste. Instead of these DK, Karun Nair and Chahal should be selected. Raina is not at all a good captain. He will not fit into captaincy...

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 13:05 GMT)

may be sanju samson is the best choice of wicket keeper

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 13:02 GMT)

do they even think while making up the squad....??? where yuvi?samson?vohra?

Posted by HariKH18 on (May 28, 2014, 13:01 GMT)

Really Happy at the selection ! Sanju will get chance :) Not against the selector at this Selection :)

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 13:01 GMT)

SV Samson 339 runs from 13 matches and WP Saha 206 runs from 15 matches. Selectors should consider these statistics. How they selected Saha. Best inform player sanju Samson better than sahaa

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:59 GMT)

Karun nair / ssunju samsom for manoj tiwary /wriddiman saha..when will our selectors reward ranji performances.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:57 GMT)

tiwary - how did he to get in the team.??.. stuart binny - hasn't even got any 50 + score in recent ipl...! saha - only smashed in 2 innings! and samson was definetly better than him!

sanju samson should have been included in the squad ...u cant create a player unless he is given some chance.! selectors must give possible reason for his rejection! karun nair, KL rahul, vohra..._-- must have been included

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:54 GMT)

my playing 11 : 1. uthappa 2. rahane 3. pujara 4. raina 5. kedar jadhav 6. rayudu 7. binny/mohit sharma 8. akshar patel 9.mishra 10.r. vinay kumar 11. umesh yadav

Posted by vivekanandanarulmozhi on (May 28, 2014, 12:51 GMT)

Good team but why saha and vinay? when lot of WK like uthappa, rayudu and jadhav in. Must be try karun nair in for saha. Still i cant believe how vinay is getting repeated chances even after giving worst performance. he may be best ranji/Domestic player but he is not good for international level. Must be try Ishwar/sandeep/bumbrah in for vinay. I request banga batsmen to trash vinay all over the ground otherwise he also got an ticket to england.

Posted by karthick.r on (May 28, 2014, 12:48 GMT)

Karn Sharma,Sanju samson,Karun nair,Pravin Tambe deserves a chance!!

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:48 GMT)

Whats wrong with selection committee?? Second best economical bowler (after Narine) in IPL, and still no sign of him in Indian team?? Feeling sorry for Bhajji!!

Posted by John_Mil on (May 28, 2014, 12:44 GMT)

Good move by giving chances to the youngsters. But not the best selection. while resting the others should not select the team which seems to be new and chances should have given to Mannan Vhora,Sehwag,Gambir,Chahal,Sanju Samson atleast for this series. Also for the test series Sehwag should have given a chance as Opener.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:42 GMT)

Where is Yuvraj Singh?? This tour would be a good platform for him to come back to form..

Posted by Knight_Rider_11 on (May 28, 2014, 12:42 GMT)

Uthappa, Akshar, Pujara, Rayudu, Saha, Raina, Rahane, Rasool, Vinay Kumar, Umesh, Mohit ...... This should be good enough for the BD's

Posted by testcricketfan123 on (May 28, 2014, 12:41 GMT)

those saying that Saha doesn't deserve to be in the team he's been consistent in domestic cricket had a good season in IPL n he's a much better keeper than Samson....he's the next best when it comes to keepinng after Dhoni

Posted by ChandimaEranda on (May 28, 2014, 12:41 GMT)

Raina is more than capable for beat Bangladesh.

Posted by PRaj1 on (May 28, 2014, 12:40 GMT)

Looks good , Not sure if raina being captain is good move , The whole point is trying to test bench strength .Its also ideal series when they can test captaincy skills , so are they indicating that Raina is our future captain ?

Posted by testcricketfan123 on (May 28, 2014, 12:39 GMT)

Sanju looks a talent but he needs a couple of season's of domestic cricket to learn how to construct an innings.........n i think he'll make it as a batsman his keeping is pretty avg...

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:38 GMT)

samson is not a better keeper than saha that explains it

Posted by raj-india on (May 28, 2014, 12:32 GMT)

I will agree with Sandipan deb point, Its cracy in selection of Vinay kumar who bowl shot pitch in average @ 120 kms any type of Pitch & facilitate opponent batsman to score run....remember @ Last ODI gave more then 102 in 9 overs runs..

Posted by Matals on (May 28, 2014, 12:31 GMT)

Sanju Samson is a good option as a batsman and WK than Saha. Hope Rasool will get a chance in playing XI this time.

Posted by naren1983 on (May 28, 2014, 12:31 GMT)

Poor Selection. Raina was not selected in last Asia Cup and he has not done great in IPL, suddenly he has been promoted as Captain. Binny & Manoj Tiwary are real out of form and struggling, Rishi Dhawan & Yuvaraj should have been in for them. BCCI should not take Bangladesh lightly at their own pitch. In bowling too, vinay kumar will not be effective in Bangladesh pitch. Akshar Patel is real surprise and good selection. Hope Pujara will get chance and use the opportunity, but Rahane is not seems a good ODI player in terms of consistency. Kedhar Jadhav is a good selection and look to grab the opportunity as well.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:31 GMT)

Saha is 30 years old, selectors should be looking at the future. Sanju Samson is in the form of his life. He has earned his India debut. Selectors have disappointed once again!

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:30 GMT)

Binny medium pace alrounder ,its a good experiment for 2015 worldcup as Auastralia and Newzealand pitches are fast and it is wise to develop medium pace alrounder rather than spin alrounder.Good selection,,

Posted by testcricketfan123 on (May 28, 2014, 12:29 GMT)

Sanju Samson surely looks a talent but he needs to play a couple of seasons of Domestic Cricket to get better at constructing an innings...i think he'll make it into the team more as a batsman than keeper batsman his keeping seems avg....whereas Saha deserves a go unlike a couple of people opposing his selection he's been consistent in domestic cricket n he is the best keeper in the country apart frm Dhoni though i feel he's better than Dhoni when it comes to keeping against pacers against spinners Dhoni's the best n in this season of IPl Saha showed that he can score quickly too

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:28 GMT)

Where is Sanju Samson n' Ishwar Pandey!! :O

Posted by JJAbraham on (May 28, 2014, 12:23 GMT)

I thought Tambe deserved a chance... Well, if he does not get a chance now, then never... He would have been a better choice over Mishra, given their recent performances... And a bit surprised that no young batsmen like Vohra, Samson, Rahul were picked.... Happy to see Kedhar Jadav in the team... And also hope Binny, Rayudu, Tiwary & Saha justify their selection (because they did not deserve to be selected).

Posted by wapuser on (May 28, 2014, 12:22 GMT)

Best inform player sanju Samson better than sahaa

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:20 GMT)

How can Sanju be ignored

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

Why everyone is missing Samson here. He is too young and will make it to the team later, he is good but couldn't convert good starts into big scores. Im not against him but you cannot select a squad of 50 players. And this is going to be with Bdesh, lite lo.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

Should have given Yuvraj Singh an opportunity. He performed well in IPL. This would have been a nice step for him to get some feel of bat on ball at international level ODIs. AT any cost Yuvraj should be there for India for WC 2015.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

nice move by selectors, first time i am seeing selectors giving oppertunity to bunch of youngsters. this trend has to be continued in future also when ever possible, even though negative result comes out of the series.

Posted by CricketMaan on (May 28, 2014, 12:19 GMT)

Vinay, Binny selection based on FC performance and Binny is only in the team as he is an allrounder. Although must admit that Rishi Dhawan could have been tested for he too had a good season. That will let Binny know there is some competition and no complacency

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:18 GMT)

Someone who just don't want to play but also want to make an Impact , Manan Vohra should have been given a chance.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:16 GMT)

highest run getters of ranji trophy are out so are highest wicket takers. uthappa paid for his consistancy. but binny and raydu are rewarded for what..???same is the case of manoj tiwari he was out of ranji trophy and was a flop in ipl. but still finds a place in team... where is rishi dhawan, sanju samson, karun nair, cm gautam,. kedar jadhav gets reward for life time services. this team will definately lose to bangladesh. all the best @suresh raina

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:16 GMT)

samson must be in the squad in place of saha and karun nair played beautiful Ipl as well in Ranji season. Or Sehwag must be given a chance

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:15 GMT)

i think yuvraj should be in 15 squad

Posted by Rahulthevirufan on (May 28, 2014, 12:15 GMT)

Pretty good selection though Binny is not either in form nor he is exactly allrounder for ODI, more of a T20 guy Rishi Dhawan could have been better. Also a pacer is short in squad. Though overall good selection- good thing didn't swayed by IPL performances. Regulars got place with Ranji top performers. Sanju and Nair can get places in future.

Posted by Glab on (May 28, 2014, 12:14 GMT)

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:12 GMT)

Where is Sanju Samson.....? he is the best talent right now......irrespective of Dhoni's inclusion in the team Sanju must get a long run in the International arena.....he certainly has the talent as well as a calm head on his shoulder.....he is in good touch also.

Posted by raj-india on (May 28, 2014, 12:12 GMT)

Bad selection.. I don't like to see Rahana in team who's having average less then 20 in recent 10 ODI's against top class bowling.. expecting many young guns link Sanju & varora rather then Rahana..(its really waste of time & wasting position in team)

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:11 GMT)

want Samson instead for jhadav and even ishwar pandey

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:10 GMT)

good team... i miss sachin sehwag as opening pair...

Uthappa is a proven performer this season in all formats of the game. Its disappointing to see him miss out the opener's slot. Would prefer Uthappa and Gambhir opening for India in tests to.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:10 GMT)

Binny leads a charmed life for sure!! Its a mystery how his name comes of any list. During this year and last what has he done other then in the IPL he bats before Hodge Smith and the one who bowled a leg side full toss to Tare

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:10 GMT)

good side .but do we need binny there.he looked no where near int standards to me hope fully parvez rassol gets some games

Why is Manoj Tiwary there? What commendable contributions he has provided in recent past?

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:09 GMT)

what is manoj tiwary doing here ? K L Rahul / Karun nair should have got chance. They have given more importance to IPL performances which is bad. Vinay kumar led Karnataka to Ranji trophy and gave a decisive performance there. IPL was bit bad for him. Stuart binny never got a chance in newzealand tour, he should make it to playing X1

Posted by wapuser on (May 28, 2014, 12:09 GMT)

Sanju samson missing...... better player than kedar jadhav and stuart binny.

Posted by j4884 on (May 28, 2014, 12:09 GMT)

Seriously no Umesh Yadav in the test squad??? Umesh has been our best wicket taking bowler in tests next to Zaheer but Umesh is selected for some meaningless ODI's in Bangladesh. Strange selection this...How many chances will Ishant get and what is Binny doing in test squad???? Dhoni's favorites like Ishant will keep getting chances inspite of poor performances. While bowlers with great potential like Umesh will be dropped for no reason. Hope India lose the tests by 5-0. - Disgruntled Indian Cricket Fan

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:08 GMT)

How come the board selected Manoj Tiwary, Amit Mishra, Binny & Vinay. All these players are well out of form. Ppl saw how mishra & vinay went for runs in the IPL... They could have given Bhajji a chance instead of Mishra, Aaron for Vinay, Samson instead of Binny and Vohra for Tiwary....

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:08 GMT)

Yuvraj Should be there... Even not selected for England's tour. Why??? Vijay & Ishant again... I hope this time it would be 5-0 again. This is again Dhoni's team !!!!

Posted by Dillugadu on (May 28, 2014, 12:08 GMT)

I think its the last chance for Vinay and Binny in Bangladesh. If they fail I don't see them being selected again in future.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:08 GMT)

yuvi could have got Chance instead of Binny. y not sanju. karanveer instead of mishra

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:08 GMT)

Indian selectors open your eyes...judge the real talent... can't see any merit in selection of Pujara and Saha ahead of Samson and Yuvrj!!

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:07 GMT)

this must be the poorest selection by the selectors!!! no yuvi, karun nair , sanju samson, karn sharma?? non of the batsman except raina can explore in the death overs..harbhajan singh whoz bowling so well didn't deserve a chance?? ohhh god save team india in bangladesh....i hope they do well bt looking like they will loose to bangladesh.

worst selection... why avoid yuvi, samson , rishi dhawan.... really i dont know why selection committee pick up vinay kumar....really worst player...worst selection

why not sanju samson?why not?he is young, talented and in form.instead of giving someone already in their thirties(saha) a call up,what would have gone wrong if they had selected samson?

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:05 GMT)

Surprised to See Manoj Tiwary, Amit Mishra and Vinay Kumar. I would have picked Sanju Samson, Karn Sharma or Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar or Varun Aaron.

Posted by BrainsRam on (May 28, 2014, 12:04 GMT)

Would have preferred Samson over Saha or even DK just for his experience in this young side. I guess the playing XI should be :

Uthappa (wk), Rahane, Pujara, Raina, Rayudu, Jadhav, Rasool, Binny, Amit Mishra, Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav (2 all rounders in Binny & Rasool & 1 wk allrounder in Uthappa, 5 batsmen and 3 bowlers).

Any takers for my XI?

Saha over Samson? Why have Binny and Vinay Kumar? Maybe Manoj Tiwary also needs to be dropped.

Posted by Srimanth on (May 28, 2014, 12:03 GMT)

Completely different team. Good work by selectors. But Vohra should be given chance rather than K Jadhav & Karan sharma should be given a chance. Samson is better option than saha. Samson is young, keeping well & batting well. He is future player for india. Even dinesh karthik is better than saha & mainly captaincy can be given to Vinay kumar. He lead the karnataka team in Ranji very well.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:03 GMT)

i dont mind india losing 2-1 but these guys must fight out of their skin. bangladesh are not easy to beat in front of their awesome home fans

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:03 GMT)

Samson could have been part of the squad. He will serve as a WK ans well a opening batsman.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:02 GMT)

My XI - 1. Rahane 2. Uthappa 3. Rayudu 4. Raina 5. Pujara(captain) 6. Binny 7. Akshar Patel 8. Russel 9. Rishi Dhawan 10. Amith Mishra 11. Mohith sharma

Posted by SUNNYCHD11 on (May 28, 2014, 12:02 GMT)

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:01 GMT)

Bad Selection.. NO Sanju Samson and Yuvi. Based on current form, i feel Binny and Manoj don't deserve to be part of the Team.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:01 GMT)

Why no Yuvraj Singh? They don't need a specialist keeper over Uthappa and Rayudu. I am glad Raina gets an opportunity to show his worth. Also sad that Gautham Gambhir missed out. He hasn't been in great form recently, but he has shown glimpses of a return and I am confident that he would be in his fluent best by the time of this tour. Let me ask a question, who is gonna come 1 down? Rayudu, Pujara, or Tiwary? Raina is anyway gonna come 2 or 3 down.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 12:01 GMT)

patel is better wicket keeper then Saha and he is left handed too other than raina no left handers in the team .. i think Dada,Raina & Yuvi are the only left handed bats of repute India has ever produced

They should have included Sanju smason(wk) a debut. he was the top scorer for Rajastan Royals and showed a brilliant wicket keeping.

surprised that samson was not selected. such a talent. uthappa and samson could have been ideal. wonder if saha gets a game there. akshar patel selection was wonderful. he is having a great day. 2wickets maiden and now india cap awaits.

Should have got Manan Vohra.. he seems a bright prospect n why was Dhawan rested?? He didnt have a grt IPL n its not wise to send a player to England tour without much confidence..Feel sorry for Sandeep sharma but he needs to develop his pace n death bowling..Iswar in for Vinay wud have been a welcome move.. Overall happy with the team selection

One has to feel sorry for Gambhir but IPL performances have become the benchmark for ODI selection. Akshar Patel and Rasool are completely surprising especially the latter is not in any kind of form. Karn Sharma or Karanveer could have been tried. Overall a good team to whitewash Bangladesh.

overall good selection.. but they can tried for sanju Samson too..

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:57 GMT)

Good to see Kedar Jadhav is selected, he is the future of Indian cricket. instead of Saha, Samson should have got chance. Bowling department selectors should look beyond Vinay kumar, there many options available - Sandeep Sharma, Bumrah.

why Raina as captain , groom Pujara for that role, again Vinay and Binny ?

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:56 GMT)

Good selection but Raina as captain is little surprising. Good to see Pervez given a chance again. Hope this time he gets to play. Last time he was sunbed by Kohli in Zimbabwe tour.

Saw the test squad.I have seen wrong selections in the past this squad is a shocker.Binny in the test squad,no saha,no umesh yadav,no ojha were all the shockers.I would need some time to recover

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:56 GMT)

Great initiative to rest the main players. It will give a much needed breather. However, Yuvraj/Gambhir could have been given the chance here. Raina is the player which India deserves but does not need right now :P

Excellent Team selection, otherwise it would have made it a meaningless ODI.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:56 GMT)

vohra should have been selected

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:56 GMT)

Best team without star players. I would love to watch Suresh Raina (most friendly cricketer) doing Captain job. All the best. Also happy that W.Saha got an opportunity.

why sandeep sharma was left out, he would have been handy in Bangladesh as a genuine swing bowler, a good prospect for future

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:55 GMT)

Bhuvi too has been rested.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:55 GMT)

Vinay kumar, Umesh Yadav, Binny and Saha.. Crazy selection.. lol

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:55 GMT)

where is sanju samson in the squad for Bangladesh why akshar patel and kedar jadhav included

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:55 GMT)

This bowling line up is a disaster waiting to happen....am sorry but bhuvi shami and aaron have not played too much nor are their places in the team secure enough to be rested...

A really weak team... I understand the need to build up fringe players before 2015 but this will ruin their confidence as BD will thrash these guys badly.

Posted by sonurijs on (May 28, 2014, 11:55 GMT)

Kedar Jadhav is a young enthusiastic player. He should be given batting up the order (may be 2 down). Rasool and Rayudu will be the key players in the series. They should not be denied place in the playing eleven.

NO YUVI....Very Bad... It looked like he was back in form....

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:54 GMT)

Uthappa, Rahane, Pujara, Raina, Rayadu, Tiwary, Jadhav, Yadav, M sharma, Mishra,Patel

Posted by ramli on (May 28, 2014, 11:53 GMT)

Good choice ... young guns are rewarded ... hope they make it count ... Is this team enough to beat BD may be 2-1?

Posted by imwhoim on (May 28, 2014, 11:53 GMT)

It's a very nice team selection... But a feeling that Yuvi instead of Binny...

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

raina was not even considered for test now he is captain great

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

Wow. First time I have seen an audacious decision by the selectors. This is a welcoming selection and gives a chance for lotsa youngsters to play and get a chance to represent India for WC 15

Posted by Rakshit on (May 28, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

I expect Sanju Samson as WK rather than Saha.

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

I C Pandey where is he was on bench in NZ here out of team.

Posted by MohammedSajid on (May 28, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

Good Selection... Don't want to see Pujara in ODI Team

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:51 GMT)

Yuvraj Singh could not find a place. Its really sad

Posted by   on (May 28, 2014, 11:51 GMT)

Posted by Prans1997 on (May 28, 2014, 11:51 GMT)
