Former India captain Anil Kumble has stepped down as chief mentor of Mumbai Indians with immediate effect in order to pursue other opportunities in sports and cricket, the franchise announced on Monday.
"I sign off with the obvious satisfaction of moulding a set of brilliant individuals to a high performing unit," Kumble, who has been associated with the franchise since January 2013, said.
Kumble picked out the team's title winning run at the IPL and Champions League in 2013 as the team's biggest achievement. Mumbai also went on win their second IPL title in 2015, when they beat Chennai Super Kings in Kolkata.
The Reliance Group which owns Mumbai Indians had earlier this month appointed Sundar Raman, the former chief operating officer of the IPL, as their chief executive for their sporting operations.
