Peter Moores has released England's one-day squad for the opening round of Twenty20 Cup matches on Wednesday. With the short turnaround time between the Tests and one-dayers, Moores feels it is the best way for them to prepare.
"The players enjoy the Twenty20 format and this will be an excellent opportunity for them to gain valuable match practice and sample the excitement and atmosphere generated by our own domestic competition," Moores said.
The Nottinghamshire trio of Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann won't be in action as their team doesn't have a game in the opening round of matches. However, Kevin Pietersen will turn out for Hampshire, while Paul Collingwood, captain of the one-day side, will continue his search for form with Durham.
Collingwood and Ian Bell, both in need of runs, decided against playing in the County Championship between the second and third Tests. Both players bagged ducks on the opening day at Trent Bridge as pressure grows on their places.
The one-day squad will meet up at Old Trafford next Thursday ahead of the Twenty20 international on Friday. The five-match ODI series starts on June 15 at Chester-le-Street.
